The LCD is recessed deep enough that I don't think I've seen sunlight directly on it.

That's really my only concern on a digital dash. Thanks for the feedback.

Our BMW X5 dash is digital, and so is the heads up display. I’ve never seen them wash out. I have no concerns with that on the Toyota vehicles I am interested in.

Yeah I haven't really paid too much attention to it, but they designed a small ledge that hangs over the display to block light.

Given how much the sun kills the visibility on the HU on the 3rd gen and even the Rav we had, I had to ask. I have 0 experience with a digital dash, so again I had to ask lol.

It falls almost into the It Sucks category. I'm getting used to it, but the quick glance that I would give to my 3rd gen's fuel gauge, doesn't work on this one.

I haven't had any issues with sunlight washing out the gauges. I can see them well, day or night! I think most of my frustration lies in what seems to me like the driving experience is being overcomplicated by unnecessary gadgets, modes, and different ways to do things that didn't need changed. It's as if car companies can't build a new model without reinventing the wheel! The fuel gauge is a prime example! It is now a horizontal bar graph on my TRD Sport with the amount of miles left until empty displayed next to it, and according to my calculations from fill-ups vs miles driven and average mpg, that number is pretty far off! Like any new technology, I'll slowly catch on to how to use what I need and ignore all the rest. I'm what the younger generation calls "old school" and for me if it doesn't fit on the instrument cluster without having to push buttons on the steering wheel to scroll through all the options then there's too much information!
I'm sure there are those the like all the extra info but it's not my cup of tea. When driving my old Ranger, at a glance I can see all of the following information; mph, engine rpm's, oil pressure, engine temperature, battery voltage and a really good idea of how much gas is in the tank, and how many miles I've driven.
And I'm sure this will come as a shock to some of you but there hasn't been that first occasion that I have felt the need to know the degree of angle that my truck was tilting from side to side.
I think the truck is built really well and has a great look and feel to it and no lack of power. I'm realy pleased with it and time will tell how it stacks up against the other generations. The unnecessary over-the-top technology is my only complaint.

As you mentioned, your brain will remap. It is good to have mental challenges to keep the dementia away. Blueberries help, or at least that is what the research funded by blueberry farmers says. Also, can't you change the display info/pages in settings?

The gauges, the driving modes, which safety features are turned on or off, at what angle is the truck tilting front to back or left to right (clinometer), tire pressure, rear tire contact line, rear tire course line, slip display, Eco mode, Sports mode, Comfort mode, Normal mode. Get my drift? ..LOL
This is just a hint of the many options available by different switches and knobs and If someone is driving down the road and can concentrate on all of this information and where to find it, then they're either commercial jet pilot or a highly distracted driver!
When I was kid there was only one phone in the house that hung on the wall. The handset was attached to the base by a coily cord. You made calls with a rotary dial on the front. And now I have a 'dumb phone' that has more computing power than what it took to put astronauts into space on the Apollo missions in the 60's! I can text, make phone calls, take pictures, send pictures and look up more information in a few minutes than I could in encyclopedias in a year!
    Woo-hoo!

Na, all good. As we age it’s always good to keep challenging ourselves. At 58 with a 10 year old and a 17 year old there is always something. Going from our 2004 Pathfinder to our 2020 Tacoma was a bit of a challenge with some of the new technology. Toyota’s safety sense and a few others things took some getting used to. All good now.

This should work on the Tacoma. Buttons look slightly different, but serve the same functions:

To be fair, the truck can display a lot of useful information in that spot but I'm a retard and like looking at that instead.

Snickers, Yup, there's a ton of information available found by first pushing the 'OK' (Enter/Set) button. 80% of which I'll probably never use (the dementia is in advanced stages). The video link will be helpful. This is more on me than the Tacoma. I'm sure this is all a no brainer for those here that grew up with computers and gaming consoles but I'm nearing retirement and was advised that I should upgrade my trusty old daily driver I've been using for the last 24 years. It's a 98 Ford Ranger, 4x4, 3.0 liter V6, single cab, 5 speed manual tranny and manually operated door locks and windows.
My best analogy of my experience with going to a new vehicle with all the latest technology is like jumping from a horse-drawn Conestoga wagon to the Space Shuttle! It's a whole new ballgame!

It’s actually not that bad. And it’s way better than this option of fuel gauge. Not sure which model this is for (SR?)
