    Hey all,
I have a 99 Tacoma (4wd, 2.7L) with about 185,000 miles and have a number of maintenance needs (so I'll likely be posting a few threads). The first is that I am having issues with my power steering, mostly right after heavily applying the breaks (makes a loud "winding" sound and feels rough). From what I've read, it appears that I likely need a new pump? Anything else I need to consider? I'd like to make any necessary fixes myself.

    Thanks in advance.

Is the fluid at the right level?

Yes, the fluid appears to be fine so I'm pretty sure that there is not a leak anywhere. Also, at startup, I am getting a lot of squealing from somewhere (belts, bearings?), especially if the fan is on. Not sure if this would be related.

Yeah, I likely am due for new belts. From a visual inspection they look ok, but have not been changed in a while. Also, they do not see to be to loose. Although I'm not exactly sure how to check to see if the tension is to spec (did the turn 90 degree test?). I've read in other threads about cleaning the screen at the bottom of the reservoir, however I can't see how to get to it without removing the belt?

when you suck air in the power steering it does this screaming while it bleeds itself

so, the symptoms sound like: when braking it sloshes and sucks air, and the noise is that air bubble(s) routing
    back out

Thanks! So would there be a leak? Causing air to get sucked in?
