That's not the only problem either. Had it in the shop for 3 weeks not too long ago for a bad computer.

I'm not too tore up about it though. They've worked with me every step of the way. Even paid my truck payment for the time it was in the agop

That's what makes resale value a big consideration to not ignore. Toyota still has that edge but with their lessening quality that'll fade eventually.

Look at the competition though. People are saying Honda is worse, and Subaru is getting worse as well with all their oil burning. The big 3 here are better than they used to be but still bad compared to most Japanese cars. Point is Toyota still has a long lead.

+2 on this....the ass chapping thing is they are acting like they know that and dumbing down to bring themselves back towards the shittiness of others like there is no need to be as good as they used to be.

Simply stated, Publicly owned Wall Street companies want max return on investment, cheapen the product and maximize the profits. Warranties are built into the price of the vehicle, meaning the more warranty work you have to have done, you are getting a better value since you already paid for the warranty work. Companies figure out what the average vehicle warranty cost will be and add that to the price.

Used to be consumers bought "Made in Japan" cars for quality. Well now most Japanese cars are made in the US and we see the quality dropping.

As for factories and automation. Most companies today have to be certified for the international ISO 9001 standards. What this means is that the process of manufacturing is determined buy the processes which are supposed to guarantee quality. This means if everyone does what the process says to do, you will get a defect free product. They don't do a full inspection of every part or vehicle. They just sample from time to time. The problem with the ISO quality management system is that humans are the one who certify and verify that the processes were completed. In other words ISO 9001 and equivalent means absolutely nothing. It is a bureaucratic paper trail process that originated from Europe that just makes everyone feel good.

Also most manufactures outsource most of the components and shop for the cheapest vendor who can deliver on time. This leads to crappy parts and cut corners, just like the rusty frame issue Toyota has, they didn't make the frames.

Big companies like Toyota sells millions of vehicles as well all know 2.7 million last year. They expect many of them to be crap, even .01% of that number would be 270 vehicles. So it will take either deaths and or massive numbers effected to get them to do anything.

This sucks but unfortunately it is the way of big business. Look at the GM faulty switch fiasco, causing deaths and GM knew about it for years and didn't care. And after all was said, nothing really happened. Small fines compared to what they make and some CEO's let go with golden parachutes.

Companies only care when the bottom lines is effected, so when Tacoma's stop selling and other brands start getting better then Toyota may wake up.
