I am reasonably certain the PS cap tells you to use Dexron ATF.

I used Valvoline full synthetic when I replaced my rack last year.

Have you tried your owner's manual? They typically reside in the glovebox and can also be found online.

Fluid type Automatic transmission fluid DEXRON® II or III

    https://www.valvoline.com/our-products/automatic-transmission-products/maxlife-multi-vehicle-atf
    Recommended for the following applications:
GM DEXRON® II, III and VI
    Toyota WS

    You also have:
    https://www.valvoline.com/our-products/automatic-transmission-products/dexron-vi-atf
    Recommended for the following applications:
    DEXRON-VI
    DEXRON-II
    DEXRON-III
    Mercon LV

Of the two, I would use Maxliife. I do use Maxlife in both my transmission and my power steering. Your 2016 owners manual may require different fluid for the transmission, but Maxlife will work for your steering.

Yes I did. That's why I asked about the MaxLife.

Use atf- I put that same stuff you pictured in a while ago and got immediate leaking at lower rack seals. Turkey basted it out for atf and leaks stopped. Never listen to the guys who work at the auto parts store...I am in no way a mechanic and frequently know more than the auto parts kid. I had to explain in about 4different ways what a paint marker was the other day. “You know when you go to the junkyard and buy parts and there is writing on them?”
Him: ....”no, I’m not sure”...ok, you know a sharpie marker? Like that but with paint... but I digress. ATF

Can I suggest that instead of doing the turkey baster thing, just flush the power steering all at once.

See post 8(by me) in this thread. https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads/power-steering-fluid-question-red-vs-brown.525029/#post-16722279

Then follow the thread link link to the method used by hladun. You can buy plugs like rubber vacuum caps for the steering reservoir in the "help" sections at any big box auto parts place like Autozone, Advance, Oreillys, etc.

Other than jacking up the front end, it only takes a half hour.

I plan to flush my PS fluid soon and picked up 2 qts of Mobile 1 synthetic ATF https://www.walmart.com/ip/Mobil-1-Synthetic-Automatic-Transmission-Fluid-1-Quart/143537399?wmlspartner=wlpa&selectedSellerId=0&adid=22222222222000000000&wmlspartner=wmtlabs&wl0=e&wl1=o&wl2=t&wl3=10352200394&wl4=pla-1103028060075&wl5=&wl6=&wl7=&wl10=Walmart&wl11=Online&wl12=143537399_0&wl14=Mobil1 synthetic atf&veh=sem&msclkid=e03616ab250b14197b39779e7b761549&gclid=e03616ab250b14197b39779e7b761549&gclsrc=3p.ds

The manual just says Dexron 2 or 3 and the bottle says this, so I’m assuming I’m good but looking for confirmation from someone that may have used the same fluid. Will this stuff work and will 2qts be enough for a flush?

Hate to revive this thread, but I have a ton of ATF Dexron IV. Can this be used in place of ATF Dexron II/III for power steering fluid in a 2014 and 2016 Tacoma?

I’m petty sure dex 4 is backward compatible to dex 3. I would suggest Valvoline MaxLife.

I should have been more specific, Toyota ATF Type T-IV
