pretty much the vid is the way to do it.

This is what I did, suck all the fluid out of the reservior, pull the return line (its the one

with the spring clamp), pull that down by the tire, put in a barb and connect some clear

tubing about 3 ft or so. Jack up front end, have some one turn the wheel back and

forth, fluid pumps out, do that untill it stops. un hook, connect the return line to the

reservior, Fill with fresh fluid, start truck run for 30 sec, turn off check fluid, may have to add some, start truck again turn wheels back and forth, keep the res full.

Turn off truck check res, top off, go for a drive, check fluid. At this point I sucked all

the fluid out just to check, then refilled.

So you didn't remove the reservoir and clean the screen? That's what I need to do to get rid of my whining sound

Here is a photo, of those 2 bolts at the back of the pump of my truck. They are plainly visible just under the bottom of the reservoir. The third (and last bolt) is in front, behind a hole in the pulley (not in this photo).

I have no idea how to access those bolts, at least all of them.... and my return hose, even after removing the little clamp didn't budge---- kind of made me felt pretty naive and helpless....and a pansy, can't even do this simple task

I just realized you have the v6 (mine is the 4-cyl), so I'm assuming that access to the bolts is more difficult, and this is not such a simple task.

You could call a shop (that knows Toyotas) and ask how much it would be to remove/clean the reservoir and screen. It might not be that much.

pulling the hose was a pain in the ass, but I sprayed in a little wd-40 and worked it up and down an it popped.

My hose was a pain in the ass. It was impossible for me to get it back on so I just went and bought a new one which still wasn't fun. I have a slight leak now so either my reservoir is leaking or the synthetic made my steering rack leak.

The smell of ATF is not a pleasant one either. :(

Maybe he didn't clean the screen, but just punched a hole in it while scraping it. I would have liked to see a picture down into the reservoir while it was empty to see if the screen was still intact.

Seems very unlikely, with the tip of a flexible rubber hose.

The screen is not metal. It's very delicate. And a flexible rubber hose won't scrape any hard deposits off of the screen.
