My wife's 2007 Highlander has developed a slow (so far) power steering leak. I put fluid in yesterday, ran the engine for a while, put a bit more fluid in and then my son took it for a couple of hours. He reported that the noise that she had complained about was gone. So far so good.

I don't want to replace the rack just yet if I can get away with it. I don't know if the leak is from the rack or one of the hoses and don't have time to get it to a shop for a look.

All of which leads me to leak sealers. I see that a number of different companies make power steering leak sealers. Lucas Oil seems to get good reviews. The problem is, once it's in if it doesn't fix the problem I'm likely to have to drain the whole system.

So, has anyone had any experience with leak sealers? For that matter does any have any experience with Highlander steering racks?

The rack in my Tundra disintegrated at 200K miles, but fortunately my dealer was able to find a remanufactured one that saved me a good deal of money on the repair. I haven't heard any thing similar about Highlanders.
