    Hello everybody,
I have a weird situation with my power steering. It makes a load grinding/ screeching noise when you turn the wheel. Also sometimes you can barely turn the wheel at a sharp turn. I just replaced the power steering pump, and I cleaned the reservoir. Also I don't know if this relates to this, but when you immediately turn the truck on, their is also a loud grinding noise that lasts for approx. 10 seconds that sounds almost exactly like the sound from when you turn the wheel.

Well if youve replaced the pump and cleaned the screen with no change then it has to be your rack unfortunately. Its the only other component to the system. Theres really no fixing them either, it'll need replaced.

The problem was present beofe the pump swap right, im assuming?

Could it be a rusted line that has a air pocket putting more pressure on the pump?

Nope, air really dosent get caught in there. It gets forced through due to the massive psi that system is under. Any hole in the system would just squirt fluid. Low pressure squirt on the return line and high pressure squirt anywhere else.

Ok, thank you. Do you think putting Lucas power steering stop leak fluid will help? I put z-max in but, wouldn't help.

Well, i dont think so. It seems there is a problem with the check valves in the rack im guessing. Its not leaking right??

So I had a issue with a different squeeling noise a couple months ago right when I started the truck up. I thought it was a power steering pump. After I put that in, noise still didn't go away, found out it was a water pump. The squeeling noise now came back, but I definitely know it has something to do with power steering because when you turn the wheel you get the grinding noise. So to answer your question, the noise of when I turn the wheel with it grinding was never there before I replaced the pump.

Well with that said, reman pumps have been know to be kinda shitty quality compared to the good OEM pump. So, it could possibly be a crappy pump even though its new, well, rebuilt. So....idk
