When you get your old belt off, turn each of the pulleys too see if the bearings are smooth.

I’d say that’s about right. Mine doesn’t stop though. I have determined it is most definitely in the belt area. Not sure yet if it’s the belt, a pulley, or a bearing.

I’ll definitely do that. Probably won’t be until this weekend though. I’ve got work tomorrow and school Thursday.

Hopefully the belt will be all I need, then I’ll do u-joints and I should be good! That is assuming Toyota tries charging me out the wazoo for the customer support program. Which case I’ll just do the u-joints myself.

Quick question, I’m just gonna order a belt of Amazon due to time constraints, what belt would you all best recommend? OEM? Brando? Gates, I know gates belts are very good in snowmobiled, not sure about cars and trucks. Any other good ones?

make sure it is full to start with and those bubbles can take a while to get out if the oil is foamy at all

mine was noisy for many years until I replaced my steering rack last year

Alternators make a whining sound when they are about to give up and it doesn’t change when you turn the wheel. Just a thought.

I don't THINK it's the alternator, I could be wrong, but the sound did not seem to be coming from there. I'll keep that in mind though!

So, update, I changed the belt and have determined it is in fact the PS pump. However, the old belt was shredded so it was on its way out anyways. Depending on how much the pump annoys me, I may do it now or I may wait. I presume that the PS pump is a PIA to change though...

Almost anything is easy compared to removing the turbo off my F350. :D

Hardest part is getting the high pressure hose off. Mine needed a cheater bar to crack loose when I changed the PS hoses

Actually, what are the odds it’s the ac pulley? Even though I’m quite sure it’s the PS pump due to the fact that it looks like liquids all over the side of it. No it’s not leaking, I’ve kept an eye on the fluid.

Is the circled part on that AC pulley supposed to move separately from the rest of it? I’m stil not fully sure where the noise is coming from. I thought it was the PS pump, but I’m not quite sure anymore.

Before pulling the ps pump I would give it the old turkey baster ps fluid replacement and see if that helps.

I once had a vehicle (non-'yota) that started some P/S noise but I had poor weather and no time to address the issue with a flush or replacement. I bought some Lucas Oil Power Steering System Conditioner. I turkey basted fluid out and put some fresh fluid in several days straight and then did the same thing with the Lucas. The noise went away. Very cheap fix if your issue is the same.

So I got a stethoscope today, automotive one, didn’t have time to use it, busy doing other things. I’ll try and figure it out within the next week and update you all. Hopefully it’s nothing too big. I just realized too I took somethings out of context cause of being tired, so sorry for that too! I appreciate all the help you all have been so far!

Quick update, haven't gotten around to looking at or changing anything yet, had other issues and ended up replacing the u-joints yesterday. I'm planning to begin searching for the cause of the sound tomorrow and bought some dexron 3 ATF today in case I do end up flushing or changing the PS fluid in the reservoir.

New update, flushed the whole power steering fluid out and changed it, old looked like crap, truck turns a lot smoother, but the whine is still there, so on to the pulleys I guess. Also changed the u-joints myself, which was my first big undertaking on a truck or car, so now my truck drives a lot smoother! I also greased the front two and that helped too!

Well, looks like you might’ve been right. Gonna confirm with my dad just to have a second set of ears before I pull the trigger and buy an alternator.
