Heres a vid for y'all on 2nd gen power steering pump replacement. I'm not a mechanic, and my terminology sucks, so bear with me. https://youtu.be/4ytnFeExMLE

This is just what I needed! I think my pump is going out, getting some vibrations/noises at idle when I turn the wheel. I'm no mechanic either so I needed a vid. Took a while to find it.

Hey guys. Before you go through all that hassle you may want to try replacing the PS fluid. Kinda crazy but it worked on our Honda CRV and our daughters Honda Pilot. My son-in-law said that couldn't work but was amazed when it did.
Now I know this is a Toyota forum but it might save a bunch of work for little cost.

That's actually a great idea, I just had the dealership do mine and was thinking that something they did may be the issue. I'm sure it would be cheaper...

I need to do the CRV again, just this week I noticed that the steering when hard during a rapid maneuver. That is a symptom of aerated fluid, it has been about 30k since last time. The Pilot sounded horrible, all grumbly and like the belt was rubbing a shield.
I plan to do a reservoir dump on the Tacoma at next oil change because it's been about 30k since the dealer service for certification.

The reservoir has a screen in the bottom that can get clogged with debris and cause the pump to starve for fluid and whine.

Jack the front of the truck up and crank the steering from lock to lock with the front wheels off the ground to get the air out before you start the truck. You’ll probably have to turn the key on so the steering wheel doesn’t lock. This is done with the engine off.

My truck just started binding up when i make a turn and it’ll stay stuck like that if i let it. Its really only in one spot then the steering is fine but it did start to feel a little heavier than normal i think the pump is going.

I havnt looked a That but ill check it out, i noticed my power steering fluid was pretty dirty so I assumed that could be the case of the pump could be on its way out.

Perhaps it might be the pump, but for sure take a serious look at the ujoint on the lower intermediate shaft as it has a history of seizing on a number of trucks. Water gets into the small needle bearings and rusts. Seizure can be abrupt.
