35"s, geared to 4.88 front ARB locker, upgraded to Fox 2.5 suspension with 3" lift. Custom front and rear steel numbers, rear seat delete with Goose Gear deck, Prinsu roof rack with 200w solar panels, Dual AGM batteries, onboard ARB air compressor, RCI skid plates from front to rear, Super tech big brake kit on front.
I've got a 2018 TRD Pro on 35's. I've swapped out the steering rack with a modified Tundra rack from Solo motorsports. I've swapped out the OEM power steering pump thinking the veins were getting worn out. Didn't solve the problem. Bought a new PSP and there wasn't much difference in performance. The restrictor was an already bored to 5/32" so I removed the .26 and .56 shims thinking it may increase flow. I was wrong. The new power steering pump cratered. Is there a high pressure, high flow PSP out there for 3rd gen's that will give me what I'm looking for? I'm thinking that 1650psi would be a sweet spot.

The issue I was having was that the steering wheel required a lot of force to turn. Especially when off roading and you need to have quick turning responses, which was very difficult. The pump simply couldn't keep up. That Howe set up is the only one I could come up with too. However, it seems a little pricey. I'm not sure that I even need the whole kit. Just the pump.

There are a hundred choices, but none are cheap. Pay to play.

I don't mind paying to play. I just want to know what options are out there that are proven. You mention a hundred choices and gave me one. Do you know of another right off? I want to do some comparison with other PSP's/solutions before pulling the trigger with JD Fabrication. I greatly appreciate your input and help. I'll let you know the direction I ultimately go.

If it's more so an off road rig than street vehicle you could try reducing your caster to maybe 1* or so and camber maybe +1.5*... the caster reduction will hurt highway driving stability and maybe the truck wander. The camber increase will give you that pigeon toe look. Both will ease steering. I used to align trucks in that direction when I was doing lift kits

What about a Tundra PSP? Maybe Solo Motorsports can recommend one?

Tundra pump should run 1450 - 1550 psi out of the box, and of course have enough volume for the rack.

Big Tall Dave, Great advice. I called Solo Motorsports. Talking with Bobby, he told me to send in my OE PSP and they'll machine it to boost the Psi to 1,350 or somewhere thereabouts. I like going this direction, as I wont have to spend $2K on a kit from JD Fab and it's a simple bolt on fix. I may still go the JD Fab route, just not today. Thanks again to everyone helping me out!

Yes and also how much it costs to have them machine it!

Update ~ There were a couple of questions such as how much to have Solo Motorsports machine my PSP and how much line pressure. I can answer one of them. The cost to me for having Solo Motorsports was nothing. I had an issue with the first Tundra rack and had to replace the rack with another. (Leaky seal). The owner of Solo Motorsports was never expected to cover the labor costs replacing the rack however, he machined the pump and picked up shipping at no additional cost to me. That's pretty stand up. I'm just glad that there is someone out there that knows how to machine these 3rd gen PSP's. I haven't installed the pump just yet, so the verdict is still out on how it works. I'll be honest, I'm just going to slap it on. I'm not going to test the line pressure. It'll either work better or not. BTW ~ I had been trying to hunt down a part number for the "Power Steering Banjo Fitting Washer Pressure Feed Line To Pump part number" for the 3rd gen's. Here it is 4432730040. Maybe if someone knows how to get this part number and description posted on Tacomaworld that's more easy to find, that's be helpful. I'll follow up after it's installed.

For anyone that hasn't met Bobby or Carl from Solo Motorsports, these are stand up guys with YEARS of real experience offering well thought out products and services.

I haven't personally done business with JD Fab yet, but I get the same impression from them and their shop.

    Can't go wrong with either.

Has anyone tried to swap out the belt driven PS pump for the 2012 Volvo S60 electric pump? Should put out about 1500PSI regardless of engine RPM...not sure on flow rate though.
