Hi everyone, I believe I have a leak on my steering rack and pinion. Fluid looks fresh at one of the hose connection fittings. I'm wondering if this fitting is serviceable or can be tightened? Or does it look like the whole rack and pinion will need to be replaced?

    Thanks in advanced!

Hard to say from the pictures, there is fluid spread over a large area.

I would clean everything thoroughly with the greaser of your choice. Then check daily to see where the fluid comes back. And check your reservoir fluid level if it's been leaking a lot.

Also would be really easy to clip that zip tie on the boot to see if it has fluid within. If so, rack seals are likely leaking and rack generally needs replaced at that point. Unless you or someone you know can rebuild it for you. Or just deal with it leaking.

If it's the fitting, you could try to snug it up. I assume those are pressure lines that move fluid through the internals of the rack. Really not sure though.

Check to make sure it's not coming from above.
I have a rear main seal leak that is dripping onto the rack right at that spot.

Automatic transmission fluid is used in the power steering system. So make sure that is the type of oil you found.

Thanks! Yeah if I rub my finger on the fitting it looks and smells like Auto trans/PS fluid.

Thanks gents! I tried to tighten up the fitting but I couldn't get enough leverage. Took it to a local shop and they were able to re thread and tighten. Power Steering is leak free!
