Power Steering Reservoir O Ring 90080-30034 Substitute?

    We have several people here including myself who have changed out their power steering rack recently. I also wanted to remove & clean the P/S reservoir on my '97 V6 Taco. But first I need to get a new OEM 90080-30034 O ring for the short tube on bottom of the reservoir. No Joy! They are marked as discontinued. It appears that I may be able to source a new OEM O ring out of Canada. But I remember reading that someone had found a commonly available O ring that worked for them. It may have been a Viton. Does anyone know the number on that O ring? TIA!

    EDIT: McGeorge stated that the 90080-30034 O ring has been discontinued but superseded by the 90301-11016 O ring which is available.

    For $5, might be worth picking up this assortment of nitrile o rings from Harbor Freight, I'd be willing to bet one of those would be a match.

    You are almost certainly correct. I just don't want to "fix" something that is not broken unless I have the parts in hand to actually fix it. The post where the guy came up with the substitute O ring was on this board, TTORA, or youtube. But I'll be damned if I can find it again.

    Pulled up the parts diagram, shows two PNs.

    The first one listed is the part number you mentioned, and it still shows as available on McGeorge:

    Remains to be seen I bought the tires and wheels the rest came along
    I have a huge assortment of o rings I just grab the size I need.

    You can also in a emergency cut down a larger o ring and use super glue. Get the ends square.

    The sell kits like this to make custom size O rings what ever material you need to use.

    Perfect! 44362A in the diagram is the 90080-30034 O ring that goes on the bottom of the reservoir & the one I am looking for. It was marked OOS at McGeorge when I placed my last order just 2 weeks ago and NOT AVAILABLE at Toyota online. I'll get a few just to have them in hand. Appreciate the help!

    EDIT: There is some confusion on the McGeorge website on this O ring. The McGeorge website shows the 90080-30034 O ring does not fit my '97 V6 Taco. The McGeorge info looks to be questionable, possibly in error. The below info is from the parts.toyota.com website which shows the 90080-30034 O ring is the correct part for my VIN:

    The (2) O rings being discussed here look to be specific in their application. My '97 V6 Taco was built 01/97 so it uses the OEM 90080-30034 O ring. Check your VIN when ordering.

    Is it a special shaped o-ring or just a plain old standard round profile o-ring? If the latter, I wouldn't buy from the dealer, just match up the size & buy it in the appropiate material if it's not common black buna-n.

    If you have trouble matching up the size, get one of these. They don't cost much & comes in very handy, especially sizing large o-rings.

    Someone did find a workable substitute, so it should be a standard type. But I just cannot find the post listing the substitute O ring number. I'll match it up when I get an OEM O ring.

    When I did mine, I couldn't find a match in the HF kit so I ended up reusing mine. No leaks but it is def something I'm going to be changing when I do it again.

    We appreciate your info. That is exactly why I want to I have the OEM O ring or a vetted substitute in my hand before removing the reservoir to clean the screen inside. It would be just my kind of "luck" to tear the O ring while removing the reservoir & not have a match in an O ring kit.

    I remember that the oring OD and ID were very close which is to say that it was a very thin oring. Maybe a parts store could match it up but I didn't have time and got lucky that my 20 year old oring didn't leak.

    McGeorge clarified the information on the 90080-30034 O ring which is listed as correct for my 01/97 build Taco VIN. It has been discontinued and is no longer available. But the important piece of info that McGeorge had was that the discontinued O ring has been superseded by the other O ring 90301-11016 which is available. I have a few of these O rings on the way so problem solved. Thanks for the help!

    The OEM 90301-11016 O rings from McGeorge arrived and I measured one to the best of my ability: OD 0.585"/ ID 0.475"/ ring thickness 0.055". The '97 Taco is metric, so I looked at the metric O rings at McMaster. The closest metric match I could find was the 15mm x 12mm x 1.5mm which would be just 0.1mm thicker than the OEM O ring. It appears that this is a nonstandard size O ring. It would be best to have an OEM O ring in hand if you take off the P/S reservoir for cleaning. The Toyota dealers near me did not stock this O ring. .02

    Just finished cleaning out the P/S Reservoir. And just as in Timmy's youtube video, the screen was completely clogged with fine black particles & other crap which had to be restricting the fluid flow. I used Walmart brake parts cleaner then Berryman carb cleaner to clear the screen. The brake parts cleaner put a lot of condensation into the reservoir which is something you really don't want. The carb cleaner removed most of the moisture and even more black particles. I finished drying the res. interior with a hair dryer & will not use Walmart brake parts cleaner for this type of application again. Will reinstall it with a new O ring in just a few minutes. The original 25-year-old O ring did not tear but was definitely showing its age. It had hardened/dried out, shrinking in size so that it had started to weep slightly. Good timing to clean the reservoir and change the O ring. .02

    EDIT: Done. I can't remember if Timmy mentioned it in his video but the short bolt goes in the front thru the pulley. The other (2) bolts were the same length. Using a shorter bolt in back would save you some pretty cramped finger-tightening which is hard for my XX Large paws. The rest is just basic nut-n-bolt work.
