Hey guys, I am new here. I read a lot in the past but never posted. I have a 02 Tacoma 2.7 sr5. The time is here to change the steering rack. I live in the north east so everything you find is rusty junk, when fixing things. I got a rack from Detroit Axle. Looking at the install it looks like the line nuts are rotted away. I bought the pressure line but what can I do for return line. I read 3/8 rubber hose will work? If anyone has done this how many feet of hose do I need? Anything other then hose and 2 clamps needed? Any info would be great. Once I pull it all out I can't get to the parts store till a friend can get me later.

I find that Gates brand hose fits best. They'll slide on the fittings easily but once a clamp is on they won't leak. Some other hoses (with same 3/8" inner diameter) are a little too tight and you'll get a blister trying to push them onto the metal pipe (even with oil on the hose).

Gates power steering return hose 3/8" should work. NAPA usually has it and maybe O'Reilly if they're around you.

Thanks guys for the info. I do have a NAPA a mile away, will get Gates hose. I also think I will need the metal hose end for the steering box. Both nuts on the original 2 lines look severely rusted away. Hope that male hose end is a standard size, and can pick one up at the parts store.

Are those flare or o-ring fittings into the rack? Does anyone know?
