For the wiring into the firewall I chose not to cut the engine and abs boot and found the plug next to the engine harness. I used a 13/64 drill bit to drill through the plug and feed the wire though it. The plug will be a tight for fit and be patient with it and twist and pull to the desire amount if wire through the boot. Feed the wire through the firewall forwards the passenger side and you can feel the wire around the abs wiring area and you can pull the wire and tap into the pigtail that was made. Hopes this helps if you want to go an alternative route.

Can you breakdown the cost? Looks like the wires are universal which is what I'm looking for for a similar technique Ina JBL stereo upgrade. I bought the two female plugs for the JBL for about $10 each. Was thinking I had to make the wires to plug in. Probably head to a local stereo shop to see what they have. If I don't get anywhere there then maybe back to the dealership for the wires like you got.

Edit: checked at dealership and got a cost on the wires at $8 a piece. OUCH!!! I need 20 for my project. Going to check elsewhere before biting that bullet.

Here's the breakdown of the cost.
    90980-11537....$8.88 x 1 = 8.88
    90980-11536...$10.83 x 1 = 10.83
    82998-12340...$7.30 x 6 = 43.80
    82998-12330...$7.30 x 6 = 43.80
    Total = 107.31 before tax
Usually when you buy this much you can ask the parts person to give you a discount sometimes they do and sometimes they don't. Also you would need 6 male wires and 6 female wires for the connectors.

Yea, the connectors are the cheapest part of the list and the wires adding up will cost more than the connectors.

Strange that it makes you go through the whole process of selecting your model of vehicle before you can just add it to you cart. First I just tried to select any year Tundra, but the model number of the pop n lock changed to something other than PL-8535. Finally got it with 2015 Tundra TRD Sport.

Hmmm.. it seems even with the pop n lock, I would need to splice into wires. Hmmm. I'll have to think about that. How do you run the long harness through the side kick panels to the bed? Does it come out of a hole in the rear cab?

Edit: Nevermind. I see you have to cut a small slit under the rear seat. Too bad we cant get the no cut harnesses cheaper.

Could you just use regular wires or do we need these special wires?

If you look on this post not sure what page their is a video on how to install you don't cut any wired it taps into them and you go thru the firewall not under the seat on the passenger side. It comes out right were you tap in. If you watch the video it's very easy. its page 14 post 273 you can watch the install video

If you can find a source for the pins the fit the harness the wires shouldn't matter... assuming comparable wire guage. I used the pins/wires from the a generic Metra harness for Toyota but the wires were a little loose in the OEM plug. They worked but we're a little loose. Thinking maybe some silicone to hold them firm. Note that my project is building a harness for the JBL amp but got the idea to repin the OEM harness here.

    https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads/the-jbl-upgrade-they-didnt-want-you-to-have.433277/page-12

When I get to my tailgate luck I'll probably try a similar approach with an OEM plug and generic harness for the pins and wires. The generic harness (Metra 70-1761) was under $10 on Amazon.

Good find. I know digikey and mouser have thousands of connector parts to wade through. Talking on the phone with mouser.com and molex.com didn't get me anywhere as the guy I was talking to wanted a part number. I wonder if the fit is tight because the guage wire is 14-16 and if similar pins for 16 to 18 guage wire would be a better fit.

In either case a much cheaper solution than $8 a piece from the dealership. Excellent work.
