I have an incoming 4th gen and it has the power tailgate (I wish it didn't but it comes on the Premium package I wanted). I've read of one owner that says his tailgate will not close without help with the bedcover on.

Please share your experiences with the power tailgate and bed cover.

Zero issues for me using the Extang Endure ALX with power tailgate.

Just a guess but Im sure you'll come to enjoy the power tailgate feature...

Super glad to hear that. The Extang Solid Fold ALX and the Lomax Urethane are the ones I'm considering.

The only issue I have had on my Tacoma Pro is the tailgate heater failing due to installing a bed mat. I guess the mat interferes with the tailgate heater somehow.

What's this tailgate heater you speak of? I have not heard of it.

Hmmnnn . . . that may have been me that reported that issue, but it's been solved now. My Diamondback tonneau cover was preventing the power tailgate from opening, and usually from closing too. It turned out that the various brands of silicone spray that I happened to have on hand, were all poorly formulated or too old, or both. I followed Diamondback's recommendations and bought a can of the ACE hardware brand silicone spray, and no more sticky tailgate.

I have the power tailgate and installed the RC trifold hard cover. No issues with power open or closing.

if everything is properly installed, no tonneau cover should have any effect on the power tailgate operability.

I’ve had my tailgate not open even when the cover was folded up. I have the MX4 and sometimes it works fine and sometimes I have to give it a little tug to make sure it comes down. Can’t say for sure the cover has anything to do with it.

I'm prepared for the tailgate to not work 100%. I looked serious at not getting the TRD OR Premium to keep from getting the tailgate. I'm sure it's cool and it will be useful at times.... I suppose I'm slow to accept new things(I resisted getting a smart phone for years, finally did in 2014). I mean, power lift gate in SUV's have been around for years and this is the same concept. There will be problems with anything. I've had to work on the tailgate mechanism on my 2000 Tacoma and I've only owned it 8 years. I also recall working the the tailgate mechanism of the old Mazda B2600 I had for several years.

I have a premium package TRD OR with the Toyota branded OE bed cover. I did the install and have had zero problems with the tailgate closing with the bed cover in place.

however, I AM disappointed that when the cover is in the up position, it blocks the rear view mirror camera. If it were adjustable, I could lean it back slightly more and it would sit below the camera, but it isn’t. Otherwise, I love the cover and security.

I’m so glad you chimed in here. I read your issue and was conflicted with getting the diamondback cover. Now I’m relieved.
Did you get the SE or HD?

Are you saying that when the cover is folded against the cab that it blocks the bed view camera?

    Edited to correct wordage.

Well, I applied it to all of the black rubber weatherstripping. For the tailgate to open and close, you need to apply it to the weatherstripping gasket that is at the far rear, directly over the top of the tailgate.

I got the Switchback. It is the best fit for my needs and uses. I don't need to transport quads on top of my tonneau cover, yet. :bikewheelie:
