As I said in my earlier post, I've been running this jumper for about 10 years, with absolutely no problems. I've had numerous things plugged into it from phone chargers , GPS, mattress inflaters, R/C car chargers (probably the highest amp load of all I've used it for). It's fine. The pictures I posted above is from the day I posted it. There is absolutely NO marking or burning from heat.

That's correct, they didn't make the outlets hot all the time for a reason. But that reason is so you wouldn't leave something plugged in and then run your battery dead.

This isn't a mod that allows you to run higher amp widgets from the outlets. If you were trying to power something like a fridge, you'd have problems. But you'd exceed the limits of the outlet circuit regardless if you had the jumper or retained the relay. If that's the case, I'd absolutely suggest you make your own circuit that's fused direct to the battery with bigger wires. But then I'd make it a dedicated circuit anyway, and put an outlet in the back, and still leave this jumper mod for charging my phone without the key in, etc...

That's literally what this jumper is. You remove the relay and short across the power circuit. It's just flipping the switch on. Nothing else.

The beauty of this mod is that you aren't taping into another circuit (which could exceed the amperage limitations of that circuit, like the stereo or dome light), or having to wire your own circuit. Literally all you are doing is leaving the switch on all the time, rather than having your key in the ignition to turn it on.

    Agreed.

I suppose using the word "short" is technically 100% correct but can be alarming. Most shorts are not a good thing, as in the normal electrical path going to a load is "shorted" before the load, most of the time going to ground causing an uncontrolled spike in current draw which blows the fuse for that circuit.

What this wire does is simply take the ignition controlled relay, or electrical switch out of the circuit and keeps the circuit live all the time. Think of it as taping a light switch in the on position in your house, no changes whatsoever in the circuit itself or the fuses controlling the circuit or anything, it is just on all the time.

If one was to overload the outlet with the relay installed and the ignition key on it will blow the fuse just the same as it will with the relay removed and the jumper wire installed.

The most important point is what was mentioned earlier, that is the battery drain will occur if you forgot to remove a plugged in device for days while parked. I am sure Toyota engineers simply did not want to have dead batteries being reported as some sort of quality issue when these trucks were new.

I have my jumper in and have for many years now without a single concern or problem. It is a great mod to have.

BTW, if concerned about key operated plugs, the cigarette lighter still goes on and off with the ignition switch, this mod only affects the two lower power ports.

    Great point!

I had forgotten about that part. I actually have a mini flashlight plugged in to the cig lighter outlet for this reason. It's only charging the light when it's running, or at least the key is in, but I don't have to remember to take it out when I park.

The jumper in the fuse worked perfectly!!!! Just got a Sirius XM external unit hooked up...stays on continuously! Just have to now remember to cut it off when I am not going to drive the truck for a few days!
