    Has anyone attempted this?

I currently have a 2.7l with crank windows and am shopping for a 3.4l but theres no way im throwing down on one unless it has crank windows, or if i find out how to convert to crank!

Could i get away with just replacing the door panels with one of manual crank components and simply resetting the window in the clips?

What additional parts would i need?

    Thanks to any and all.

    I love my electric windows

I am pretty sure you would need the panels and the manual window regulators and of course the cranks

    You can't have a 3.4 and power windows? That's a little weird.

I'm actually trying to do the opposite of you, I have cranks and want power options. I would be potentially interested in the power window regulator, components, trim, wiring, harness, etc.

We could do a trade maybe? Haha.

    Aye, sounds like a plan!

It's just one more electronic motor to malfunction/shit the bed and need to be replaced. Same with power locks and mirrors. No thanks. Had plenty of issues with them up here in the Maine winter.

I think i may just be better off replacing whole door. Luckily i'm not interested in a DC :]

Hey I'm totally up for a trade in parts. Sounds like a fun project.

Can anyone chime in and tell if this is a possible conversion? Manual --> Powered

Does this mean you'll need to remove the powered mirrors as well?

You're fixing something that's not broken. Why not just use the power windows and if/when they have a problem then replace them with cranks or whatever. Same amount of work in the future or now, but if the power windows never break you've saved yourself a bunch of time and money.

In this case why are you not driving something like a 1965 pick up of what ever make with no electronics

Some day my power windows might stop working and take an hour to fix so I'm spending a lot of money and the next month of my life finding parts and converting them now to save an hour and $50 in the future.

Power door locks might also fail, so i should probably do them also.

Heck I've seen manual locks fail, same with manual cranks so I'm probably better off just removing the window entirely and screwing a shed hasp on the outside and using a padlock. A good padlock is pretty much bulletproof.

But i might lose the key, lets just take the doors of entirely, problem solved.

Now windows themselves... might get broken someday. What's that lady on the internet say? "I aint got no time for that!" hahahaha, Internet, you kill me. Anyway, let's get those pesky windows out now so i don't have to worry about them. Now the problem is solved no more worries about a window motor.

Speaking of motors, they're filled with all kinds of sensors and stuff that can go bad. Heck, i might run out gas someday. Lets just pull that today. I'm doing some work on the rig anyway I might as well do a little more for the sake of future reliablity. Now i just need a more no sensor dead reliable powerplant. But even old engines might someday have a problem...

Ah, FINALLY! No more worries about my window cranks.

I'm with you, hate power locks and windows. I'm very happy with my manual stuff. I bet it would be easiest to just swap out the entire door, but it's just a guess.

I looked into the conversion more, it looks like it'll be an absolute PITA to go from manual to powered due to the fact that Toyota has 12 different goddamn wiring harnesses for the 1st-gen PreRunner/4x4. They sell universal power window and lock retrofits on eBay, I might go with that and install a 4Runner Trim.

Also, you're swapping your 2.7 for the v6? How difficult would that be? I'm looking to go down that same route. (And probably do the Auto>Manual, and 2x4 to 4x4) Yes, I'm crazy.

Nope not an engine swap, did plenty of research on that and that's not a path i want to tread.

I've converted from manual to power everything on my old 97 Chevy S10. It wasn't hard

So, witch doctor, did you ever swap in the crank windows?
