Hello, here is the story. Yesterday was the 4th time I had to have my 09 dcsb jump started since I've owned it. (About a year) the reason is simple, since the head lights turn off when the key is off and the door opens I very rarely use the head lamp switch. The problem is that I sit in my truck on my work breaks and roll down the windows while I am in there. Since you need to turn the key all the way to run to roll down the windows my headlights will turn on and since I don't get out of the truck they stay on for about 20 minutes 3-5 times a day. Since I can not train myself to turn the headlights off when I park the truck I come asking this question.
Has anyone hooked the power windows to the accessory power rather than the full run power?

    Thanks for the help.

That's why I never started depending on auto lights when I bought a new truck. On the other hand I to would like to be able to roll my windows down in accessory power rather than the full run power.

    Welcome to Tacoma World

I can't awnser your question, but those headlight switches can fail. I don't think it makes much of difference one way or another I like to turn off all the accessories before I shut off the vehicle. Unless I otherwise forget.

I have not connected the windows to the accessories but need to ask what you do for work that allows 3-5 20 minute breaks?
Does that include a meal break too? :hungry:

Same, I still manually switch the headlights on and off even on new vehicles. And yes, the full on key just to roll down the windows is kinda annoying

Yeah meal break also. Typical 8 hour day I get 2 breaks and a lunch. Most of the time I work 12 hour days so I throw another break in there. If I work with my manager it seems like I'm on break more than I am working because he has to get his smoke every 1.5 hours.

    Industrial maintenance.

Sounds like a personal problem not a truck issue.

@REWSTER I believe the door motors have their own fuses. You could wire a relay that comes on with the accessories, rather than full on without the engine running.
    Maybe @Jimmyh can chime in.

I remember "window crank handles" so turning off everything when I turn the truck off is not really an issue.

Easy. One of the 1st mods I did on my truck. On the back side of the underdash fusebox are 3 relays. The middle one is for the power windows. Take it out, pop the cover off and solder the contacts together. There is 1 LED in the drivers door switch that will remain on constant, but it would probably take months to run the battery dead from that small amount of draw. If you haven't started your truck in months, it's probably not going to start anyway.

Disclaimer: If you leave little Johnny and Susie in the truck unattended and Johnny rolls Susie's head up in the window, it's not my problem.

So that'll give me power at all times even key off?

So I should be able to just run a jumper from an accessory powered spot to one of those wires to give me power in the accessory key position so little Johnny and suzie don't get guillotined unless they have the key. Right?

The body ECU is what supplies power to th PW relay coil to energize the relay coil. If you're going to energize the relay coil from an accessory circuit, you're going to need to disconnect from the body ECU so that you don't back feed into the Body ECU. The ACC SKT relay right next to the PW relay is energized in the key accessory position. So, the basics, if physically possible, disconnect the PW relay coil power feed terminal and jumper to the ACC SKT relay coil power feed terminal. The limitation is going to be if you can physically make it happen. One way would be to make a whole bunch of jumpers so that the relays plug into the jumpers instead of plugging into the fusebox. That's all I've got for you. You're on your own from there.

The dog can lock the doors too. I've seen that happen before. One lady I know that's a dog trainer, was successful in getting the dog to unlock the doors.

Your not the only one... I have done it once or twice as well... mine is leaving the window down when I get out and then run back to put them up only to forget about the whole auto lights thing...
