Fellow Northerners, since it has gotten cold out does anyone else's power windows freeze up even if there's no ice or snow on the windows? Luckily I didn't need to use an ATM or do a Dunkin run this morning. Thanks in advance!

Mine never freezes up as long as I've cleared the ice from it. It is however noticeably slower when really cold.

Mine do this sometimes even when it looks like there was no ice or snow. I have a thin plastic scraper I put between the window and the bottom seal. That breaks the bond and allows the window to open and close again.

    Don't have that problem.

Maybe it will dip down to 65 on a chilly winter day in my neck of the pacific plate.

It's a brisk 66 today. Should be 72 but we had a cold front move through.

My solution to you is: Move

I generally dont even try to roll my windows down until the truck has been warmed up for a while.

I do use silicone spray on the door seals before winter sets in. That might help the windows too where they make contact with the rubber seals?

I haven't found much for frozen power windows after an ice storm without making your window motor fail sooner. I went through a set of them on my tundra every 10 years. Only thing i can say is not to use the window till the truck is fully warmed up.

The issue for frozen windows is the inner seal on the bottom gasket that you really can’t get to with silicon spray. I used to always think the sides and upper gasket were where the window was getting stuck, but it seems to always be on the lower seal below the felt-lined strip. It’s super annoying that there is no real fix for that area other than sticking something down there to break the bond.

Remote start and leave the heater blower on low until I'm ready to go outside. For the win.

My windows have never frozen shut. I keep my truck in a heated underground garage though.

I'd be curious in a solution as well. It doesn't happen often, but occasionally when it's really cold out I've had a window stick, makes going through the drive-thru embarrassing when you have to open the door to pay on a new(ish) truck. :anonymous:

I've debated leaving my windows cracked ever so slightly, since I have window visors, but I have a feeling snow + wind would leave my interior look like a Columbian crime scene. It sounds like that wouldn't help anyways if the freezing is happening on the bottom seal instead of the top like I assumed.

No issues with my windows in the cold today, but I also garage my truck overnight which helps tremendously. Good news about it being this cold is there isn’t much new snow to be had.

Fairbanks is so dry in the winter that sticky windows is almost never a problem.

DIY de-icer: 2 parts isopropyl alcohol to 1 part water in a spray bottle.

Spray on gasket(s) to soften/thaw frozen condensation.

I never put down the windows till the truck is fully heated up and the windows are free of ice etc. No reason to even try to put them down when they are built up with ice as they may burn out your motors. just saying.

Sound logic unless you’re someone that hits the coffee drive-thru before the truck is fully warmed up to the point of unsticking windows. That can take quite a while for some of us and especially if you’re not hitting the highway to really get things warmed up.

That always pissed me off at the drunken donuts drive-thru window's when ordering something...friggin stuck power window every winter. I'd have to open my door and step out to grap my coffee.

I’ve almost put my elbow through the car window a few times. It’s infuriating!

Now I just take my thin plastic putty knife and put in down the middle of the lower seal before I get in the truck. Pops the window free and I’m on my way!
