Ok so first time Tacoma owner here I have the 2017 TRD Pro. I feel like this truck has no power to get up and go. I traded in my Tundra so obviously there is a difference there but my wife's 4runner seems to run smoother and has better pickup when driving. Is this normal? Is there anything I can do? I notice the truck has ECT don't use it should I? I'm not trying to complain cause I love this truck but wondering if this is normal. I did upgrade to bigger tires and I know this makes a difference but it shouldn't be that much.

    Use the ECT.
Most people say with the new 3.5 you really have to get into it to feel it, you can't treat it like the 4.0.

It will get up and go you just have to stomp on it. This motor makes all of its power at higher rpms so it's not like driving a larger v6 or a v8. Once you get used to how to drive it you'll like it but takes getting used to it.

did you seriously drop 40k+ on a truck without test driving a single model (since you know, the Pro has zero engine performance upgrades)?

This Tacoma is completely weak in the lower RPM range, hopefully you at least got a manual. Keep it mid 2's for cruise, and you'll be better off. But even then remember it is a gas V6...

If you dont have a manual, you need to push the pedal to the floor (serious) if you want any sort of power.

I had a 2015 4Runner Trail Premium for 1.5 years. This truck is just as quick or faster than a 4runner with the 4.0. You need to get on it more but once you do it will go.

    6.8 secs 0 to 60, 15.2 sec 1/4. It`s not a sports car but it`s also not a slug.

Wow that's better than I thought it would be since it seems like most ppl feel it has no power.

I'd be interested to see what the manual does since that is what I ordered. It might be getting close to the times of my wife's ecoboost exploder.

You need to give it some gas but you don't have to floor it. Your manual is not going to get up and go either unless you give it a generious amount of gas.

That is just the way these 3rd gen trucks were designed. The truck has the power you just have to really step on the accelerator.

When you have the truck shifted in D the truck is configured to provide you with efficient use of MPG If you want better acceleration the you should place the truck in S mode. However while in S mode you will take a hit on your MPG. Try driving a week in S mode and then drive a week in D mode and you should see the difference in MPG.

ECT also enhances acceleration a bit, however the manual states that ECT is really better suited for for towing or mountain up hill driving

You've answered your own question. You'd be surprised what a difference bigger tires make.

    Hope that helps

That eco boost makes another 75 hp more than the Tacoma. I doubt you'll be able to keep up with the explorer.

Just looked it up. The ecoboost explorer runs a 6.4 0 to 60 and a 14.6 1/4. Not looking to have a race truck just happy to hear it's not a total slug.

Definitely won't feel it if you are light on the accelerator. When I need to get up and go, I hit the ECT button and floor it. Truck moves pretty quick at that point.
