Sorry for this topic again but I'm thinking I'm going to get my A pillars molded for hertz mille speakers 3",The shop that will do this for me is one of the best shops in Georgia and the work is awesome.Since i have the hi energies components in the door and have them powered by a jl 400/4 D Bridged 200x2...If i was to power the pillars with that amp i would have to change it back to a 4 channel and that would only give my 70 watts x 4,I know my hi energies would need way more to sound great but the pillars would be fine with that..How would you power them? Can you use a mini amp to power them? or would i need to go with a 5 channel amp since i also have a sub powering off the jl audio 500/1 D,I'm really thinking about having this done,I'm calling tomorrow about pricing to mold the pillars but i would like to do the wiring myself.I'm not sure what to do about powering them or do i need to move up to a 5 channel or mini amp just for them?

Sticking with passive? Or going active. Either way you're going to need additional equipment - either a DSP and more amp channels or a 3-way passive crossover. Seems to me you're going for an SQ setup. I'd go for maybe something like a JL XD 800/8 with 4 channels bridged for midwoofers. Or at least a 6-channel. And a DSP. JL just released their VXi series amps with DSP built in. They're gonna support apple OS (phones, tablets, computers), Win, Android phones, tablets - the whole shebang! And they also control other amps. Spendy little suckers, but for what they do the price actually isn't so bad. IF the DSPs are good.

Thank you!! you are right! Well let me ask this..Can i take my tweeters and mold them into the sail panel?Would they sound better than in the oem location? My pioneer can do active..Im passive right now,I never tried going active before.

Yeah, you can relocate the tweets. Will they sound better? I dunno - probably. Frequency response should be better if you're a good bit off axis now. You'd probably be better off going through a DSP than just doing pillars though. DSP will help you work through your issues which won't be solved by putting a tweeter in the pillars. It'll help, but the ability to finely control each channel will help more. A good DSP and good pillars are probably gonna run around the same neighborhood money wise. Actually you should be able to get a DSP for less. Pillars are a LOT of work. And then your woofers are still off axis - close to 90 degrees in the driver door. None of the drivers are time-aligned (which makes a major difference). DSP will let you correct all these response issues, will let you time-align each driver, and can correct phase issues as well. To me it's a no-brainer. You'll see a much greater improvement with a proper tune than you will relocating tweeters.

Ok what dsp should I get ?and then should I go active?I'll leave tweeters alone...This really should bring out the hertz hi energies.

I'm partial to Helix DSPs but there are many options out there. 6 to 8 v1 units are going from $300-400 depending on condition. In the last month or so I've seen $200 and $285. I paid $350 for a demo 6 to 8 in minty shape close to a year ago & prices seem to be slipping a little. There's been tons of Helix DSP activity on the DIYMA classifieds recently.

7 x 4 3/4 x 1.5 in inches for the v1 6 to 8. Inputs/outputs are on the long sides so keep that in mind.

Yes, this will give you active crossovers.

Maybe d/l the software first to give it a test run: https://www.audiotec-fischer.de/en/dsp-pc-tool/dsp-pc-tool-version-4

There are 2 other versions, but this is the latest and most feature rich. Choose the Helix DSP when it promts you to choose - it will go into demo mode & let you play with all the settings.
