Photo dump alert. Made a lot of progress on the trailer over the past few days. After finishing up what was going to be new fenders, I kinda sorta liked how the stock ones looked behind what I had fabled up, so with that, and the urge to get the rack started, I've decided to leave it be for now. Next was taking some measurements and making a rack for the trailer. Being that the rack is going to be telescoping, it won't be completely finished until I can get some struts to help raised the rack when everything is mounted. Also am gonna add some supports the will be welded to the tub and then over to the outer legs to make sure everything stays strong and straight. But heres the progress so far..
Tacked, then welded up the rack, then put it on the trailer for some measurements and test fitting:

    DSC_7100_zpswdtekci8_32950213d24594f1b68e57f22aa9cfd592b43f82.jpg
Welds are looking better and better:

    DSC_7102_zpsv0j3msdx_1a2085db325734008bc79cb15e833f87dd9eeec8.jpg
Next was welding up the legs. I used 1.75in square tubing for the outer legs, and then 1.5in will be sliding into it. Giggity. Heres the 1.75in welded up and with the rack on top for the test fit:
    DSC_7103_zpsqkeazbho_6252e41b3e9eba9f764d97fe4899b6eca7041a50.jpg
    DSC_7104_zps0ieo4scb_0be1036b6e91ddc2f28e63cc94abb1cf5ad1ecc6.jpg
Ended up cutting off about 6 more inches of the 1.75in tubing so that I could clear the garage door when the tent is mounted up. Then I cut the 1.5in tubing about 3-4 inches longer then the 1.75 in and slid it in for a test fit. Giggity.

    DSC_7107_zps4ric5kfy_00d106477e37f27187488a95e7ab53e2dcbff2cc.jpg
Next I placed the rack on top and tacked the 1.5in tubing to the rack itself, then proceeded to take it out with some help and weld all the legs to the rack.

Then I put everything back together again to make sure it all lined up.

Last what I got done was all the capping. I've never done this before but I'm pretty happy with the way everything came out.

Capping the front was the hardest because I wanted to not only cap the ends of the tongue, but also fill the small gap between the receiver and those end pieces. Now when I close in the top, it'll all look clean and closed off. The angles behind were a pain to get the welder in there but after some time, and grinding, it all came out pretty good:

Still trying to find some nice struts to weld up to the rack, but decided today to mock up the tent and awning to see how everything fits. I welded the CVT awning mounts to the rack and attached the awning, then took the tent off the truck and threw it onto the trailer.. Didn't bolt down the tent because its going to have to come off again anyway so I can paint the rack, but I was able to see how much room I had to get the tent mounted right where I want it.
First the welds from the awning mount:

    DSC_7132_zpsymuqm8wr_d5ae7037a63a24493af9c812a4c101d4d4dd7a5a.jpg
Next mounting the awning and tent.. Can see how much room up there I have to play with:

Last is garage fitment. I couldn't tell you how many times I measured the garage while building this rack lol:

Got my struts and my landing leg in the mail. The leg I was able to weld up right away, and I can't believe I've made it this far without having one yet. Before installing my struts, I needed to make some tabs to weld onto the rack, then drill holes to be able to mount up the struts and also give them something to lift the rack by. After installing in my garage, I gave the rack a lift, and I'm very impressed at the height of the rack when fully lifted up. I gained about 3.5 inches of height when the rack is fully lowered because of my placement on the tabs, but the tent and awning still cleared the garage, and I wanted my placement of the tabs to allow the tallest rack i could get when camped. I didn't get a chance to get a picture of the tent and awning up on the rack when lifted, but did when lowered. Next is gonna be drilling some more holes in the rack so I can set some pins at the lowest and highest settings to keep everything locked in place.

Looking good! Do you have to use the straps to keep the top from lifting?

Some small updates on the trailer. Bought and installed some pop pins for the rack. I'm really happy with how they came out and it makes locking the rack in place much easier. I do think I'm gonna need to buy some beefier struts though to lift the rack easier. I also bought a small hitch receiver and welded it onto the tongue. This will house the coolest trailer mod yet.... The bumper dumper

Thanks! I actually just put the entire trailer back together.. Got everything bolted up and will hopefully be taking it on an over night shakedown run to see how everything works. Just gotta wire the brake lights and get my new registration to make it street legal!! Glad you were able to use the telescoping rack concept for other things!

Haha got the idea from a buddy of mine who used one on his 4runner... I bought it the day I got back from our trip lol. I have a blue pop up port potty that will go around the entire thing so its all enclosed. Honestly 10x better then leaning up against a tree haha
