    Howdy all

I would love to see a discussion of MTS, Crawl and the E locker. I have owned and used 4WD longer than many but only ranching, logging, etc....and never had a locker.

I read the manual on these features of my '16 TRD OR but largely it only tells how to turn things on and off.

Welcome folks with earlier Toyotas that had these bells and whistles.

My first question---Will crawl help maintain control in steep descents in mud ? on gravel ?

    Thanks

Crawl essentially uses each brake independently to control slippage. So yes, it will increase control on steep and slippery surface better than without it. Having used it several times for fun I do notice it working, but it has yet to get me unstuck where I couldn't get myself out. MTS works in 4 lo by also using the brakes to account for slippage, but each setting changes how much tires will slip before it engages and you are still in control of the throttle, I also think none of its settings are as intense as crawl. The diff locker will lock the spin of the rear wheels together. Only to be used at very slow speeds, for short times while going straight. It's good if one wheel is on a good surface and one isn't. The wheel with grip will pull the truck out instead of just sitting there while the other spins in the mud or ice.

Locker will help if one of your rear wheels is off the ground.

I have done easy wheeling twice now and have not had to use any of it. I turned CC on once in a flat section and it started banging and clanking under the hood really loud so I turned it off. I think I'll only use it if I need the features...

I was driving down a dirt road in 4HI with VSC ON (not TRACOFF) and one wheel went into some sand and the system fired off the ABS and it sounded like the front wheel was going to fall off. I thought the truck was running over a large rock or caught a rock in the brake caliber. I didn't feel anything but the sound sure scared me!
