Folks who got the 0062-18, are you saying that fixed other issues outside of WOT stumble? Such as downshifting hard on a slight incline?

My tech told me today that the 0062-18 was only for WOT, but after reading some of the responses, it sounds like it fixes more...

Awesome! My experience with the driving was pretty much the same. Smoother shifting, no lurching in down shifts, no crazy hunting for gears when good no up inclines... Feels like I’m driving a normal truck...

Y'all are lucky! Took mines in. Dealership said they updated my truck. 0058. Got it back. Truck still rides the same. I called them back immediately and took it back in for them to look at. They called me and said

    Jerry,
we have driven vehicle several times today and can not duplicate any issues with being sluggish or making noise, we checked for any new updates or technical service bulletins none found, also hooked up scan tool and no codes were stored in system, maybe need to ride with tech sometime, possibly next week ?. you can pick up truck anytime we are here til 6 P.M.Thanks

So I wonder how much of the enthusiasm for this update is:

    A - placebo effect.

B - resetting the active learning function.

C - leaving the dealer with proper tire pressures.

    D - actual improvement.

A - Nope, definitely better. Just did a 1500 mile road trip prior to the update. Drove 70 miles of highway and city after. Speeds from 0 to 85 mph.

B - Definitely a part of it. I’m going to drive it hard for the next 1500 miles just in case.

C - Same pressure before and after.

D - It’s better. The gas pedal is definitely more sensitive and much better throttle response, it actually uses 5th gear and can accelerate in it without dropping from 6 to 4. Accelerating on the on-ramp was better, holding gears in headwind on my way home from work was better.

    Really hope it holds up.

Advisor said no code stored in system? Making me wonder if they even install the software the first time?

Have the tech put an obd2 meter on and tell you what the ECU calibration ID is. If it is not 04b0400 then it is not the latest update.

FWIW...I am a career Mechanic of more than 40 years.

    A. I drove the 2018 several times prior to purchase and was very aware of the WOT stall when cold at <500"ASL and searching gear issues...and the difference now.

    B. Resetting the battery (active learning function)...after one day on mine...not a valid point.

    C. Tire pressures do not effect factory programming.

    D. Actual improvement is in the eye of the beholder, but I can say with upmost certainty that T-SB 062-18 has made a major improvement in drive-ability. YMMV.

You missed my point. A lot of people drive around on under inflated tires, which robs the truck of performance. That’s what I was getting at.

^^ The very reason I didn't buy a new one this year. Way too much pass the buck BS for a +$35K vehicle. I've owned (6) Taco's since 2001 and will not own a new automatic. Rant over. Now back to your regularly scheduled TSB discussion...

I don't understand I have a 4/18 build, I have no stumble, no jerky shifting, no gear hunting and no hesitation. I guess I can see the 16'/17' may have had some programming issues but people still having complaints with there 18'?
In my case I'm not sure I would want the update.

Luckily when I was in for my 35k service today the dealer could not update it due to being to busy, as I was the only truck in the service department... and they would have to schedule me in at a later date. I'm roughly 200 miles away from 36k and I was told if I go over 36k before they can schedule me in then I'll have to pay for them to perform the TSB. With this Tacoma I've had the WORST experience out of all of my previous vehicles. Other vehicle companies are looking more and more attractive as the miles rack up.

Have you read and printed out either TSB? They are posted here on TW. Both TSB's specifically state that this is part of the Toyota Emission Warranty and the coverage is 96 months or 80,000 miles. Time to educate your service writer....!!!!!!

Driven the truck for a lil over a year and I know for a fact that it made a difference right out the dealership lot. Rolling on from 40pmh to 60+ and I was never able to do this before. My truck is not stock either. Bumper, sliders, lifted, 285 tires etc. My commute to work has a lot of ups and downs and it drive so much smoother

I just dropped the truck off at the dealership. The service advisor stated they will take it for a test drive and go from there. Crossing my fingers.

Well, I waited two hours at the dealership. Service tech took it for a ride and wasn’t able to replicate the problem (I complained that the truck struggles going up hills). Service Advisor stated there are no updates. I showed him the TSB 0062-18. He took it somewhere and came back. He stated that it is only for high altitude area and they won’t be able to replicate it. Time to find another dealership.

I showed the Service Advisor both TSBs and he stated the 58 only applies to the 2016 and 2017 models.
