Mechanic said when you pull up the old TSB it’ll direct you to the most current fix. I’m only quoting what I was told.

I’m sure there’s a lot more knowledgeable person on tsb’s

    Good luck

its not rocket science, take your truck to dealer, with latest TSB, and have them do it,, ive done it 3 times, when a new TSb comes out , i take it to the dealer, and they do it. its an update, they have to do it.. doesnt matter if they can replicate it. this update address's alot and makes the trunk shift and perform better,,,

The T-SB reference numbers are nothing more that a designator for a know issues and its fix. T-SBs 77-16, 58-18 and 62-18 are all different T-SBs that are published to resolve their respective customer complaints. All three of these T-SBs are remedied with a new ECM calibration. When a T-SB is performed, only the most recently published calibration from Toyota can be flashed to the controller at the time the update is completed.

If you walk into a dealership today and have any of these performed, your truck will receive the most current calibration ID for its respective ECM. You literally can not receive an older software version. Side note, if you received 77-16 a long time ago you received the most current calibration at that time so you will still need the most recent software flashed again.

So three years into the model run and the trucks are still being shipped from the factory with these issues...Not even Chuck Norris can convince me this is something I want to spend $30K+ on.

Good luck to all who have to deal with it.

Don't forget the howling differential, too.

    :pccoffee: Good morning @WZ00R2 ,

Well said, explained and so forth. The tsb updates don't bother me at all, every hilux, p/u, tacoma I have is its on thing! I just hope I'll be able to buy a 4 or 6cyl turbo diesel tacoma one day, with locking rear & front diffs.

The common frustration seems to be with dealers not listening to customers needs.

Thanks for clearing this up. :oldglory:

Will you send a pic of what your OBDII screen shows?

I haven’t gone in for the update yet but my 17OR is notorious for this problem you describe at 1500 rpm stalling at full throttle

Is eg1810 the samething as the tsb 0062-18? Took mine in for the 5k oil change and they said they would do it and on the paperwork it says the reprogrammed the ECU but it says eg1810 for the code

I just had mine is to fix a steering issue. Toe was out.

I told them the transmission was funky. They updated my ECU with the latest. A TSB was not performed.

I had them do this on my '16 during the three year maintenance, and the difference is incredible. It literally feels like 20-30 more HP was added. lol

I wish it was that simple for mine. They made a mechanic ride with me with a laptop hooked up to the truck. lol

I went back today and the mechanic is on board with it now. The service writer told me they’ll do it w/o question now :anonymous: ... to bad they made me work hard for it.

I don't think it's fair to characterize all 3rd gens over the quirks, annoyances, and failures of a few. Mine outshines every Toyota I've ever owned, including a '94 pickup, 1st and 2nd gen Tacomas, and a FJ Cruiser (just barely and for different reasons on the FJ). The only thing that I couldn't live with was the squeaky leaf springs. But Toyota installed the spring pads, which also fixed the howling differential (I had the harmonic frequency issue). The transmission was annoying around town and frustrating on the highway, but I could deal with it. Before 62-18, no one else who has ever driven my truck has ever mentioned the transmission, by the way. To me, the fact that Toyota did follow through with a fix reinforces what Toyota stands for, commitment to their vehicles and customers. My neighbor has a 2015 Vette (automatic) that can't shift into first without chirping the tires. Two transmissions and months in the shop later, he still has the same issue. (Rant over)

Is there a tsb for the spring pads? I just had the howling diff TSB done and still have the problem, but spring pads weren't included.

I just my 2018 Tacoma this last Monday. It’s only got 100 miles on it.

How soon is “too soon” to take it in for the TSBs? I checked out my ECU codes and they are not the new updated ECU tunes.
