Just got the 58 done at Temecula Toyota. No issues getting it done and they even did the blower fan warranty. Good peoples there.

I haven't had it done yet. Does this do anything for the gear shifting at high speeds? Took my first trip through Montana with the new truck. Cruise at 83 mph or so with altitude changing quite a bit, it seemed to shift a lot and hang out in 5th way more than it needed to. Seemed like it was in the 3-5k RPM range a lot. Mpg was way down to like 17 over 300 miles.

It may help. I still have constant shifting between 4/5/6 depending on the incline with the update on my drives through Alberta and Montana. Yes, Overall drivability is better.

Hi, I just bought mine last week and I am concerned about both the ride and the shifting - more of the shifting than anything else. Can you tell me the time your tocoma was built? Apparently the update doesnt work on some of the 2018's - I was wondering if it has anything to do with how long ago it was built. As for the ride, it sure seems stiff. Your experience?

mine doesn't ride stiff at all. it rides like a truck should ride. I will have to look at the build date but I took delivery on 2/28/18 if that helps. mine was like night and day difference before and after. mine has been done for about 1000 miles now and it is still awesome. just got home from a trip to the mountains again today and even going up and down the mountain I averaged about 19mpg. so all in all I am happy with it. I didn't buy a truck thinking I would get car like fuel economy.

Check your VIN# with the TSB

My build date was May 2018 and was included in the TSB

Night & Day difference for me. Although it couldn’t have felt any weaker before the TSB.

What is is involved in having the dealer check the trans fluid? Is it a big expense, if I just want to have it checked for my own peace of mind?

It should be free. The oil change bay will probably check it for you.

I was thinking it was kind of a big deal to check it in 3rd gens. Due to its being a closed system. Or something.

I hope my 8yr 120,000mile warranty will cover it. A good question though. I’ll call Tuesday and find out

I was just thinking if it's a quart low, as many have been, it'd be nice to get it right.

I asked about this and that said they don’t know of any update. I have them the number and he said he found something else. Anyone know what this is?

I recently purchased my Tacoma TRD Sport 4x4 double cab built June '18. It is definitely doing the erratic shifting and the hesitation when pressing the gas from a stop. I just called the Toyota dealership and told them I'd like to get the T-SB-0058-18 update. They put me on hold, came back after 5 mins and said, "I'm sorry sir, we ran your VIN through our computer and your vehicle doesn't show any available updates."
I told them about the transmission issue and they said I could bring it in but there aren't any updates.
Is this a possibility? Thanks for any help with this.

Well the dealerships are careful how they word things. These trucks actually drive as Toyota designed them. So technically speaking, there isn't a problem. However, we owners do not like how the truck prematurely shifts, lunges from P to Drive, and loses power due to early shifts (Honda CRV's have an "eco" mode designed to save gas and putt-putt along). Bottom line is you aren't asking will they do the TSB, you are unsatisfied and prefer YOUR truck shift normally. I promise you my truck felt like it shifted from 1-3-6 gears, trying to keep the rpms at 1,000-1,100 all the time. But now, it shifts normally. Take a copy of the TSB to the dealership. They know about this issue, it seems like they are trained to resist.

You need to check your VIN/VDS# against the TSB attached.

    Good luck
