How do these stay in place in the front floor boards?

They dont. There are little nibs on the underside of the mat that are supposed to dig into your carpet to keep them in place, however 20 year old carpet tends to be matted down pretty good and the liners have nothing to bite into.

The Husky liners in my 98 slide all the way up the firewall about a minute after I pull them back. Kind of annoying especially in a 5speed.

That's because you need some of these. Not sure about the Husky brand, but most brands have some way of looping them to the clips once installed.

Do you have to drill out through the floor to snap these in? Might sound like a dumb question but ive never installed them in a vehicle.

No- there is a grommet installed in the carpet that those snap into, and then the top nub usually goes into a hole in the mat.

I couldn't find the actual instructions anywhere so I just scanned it real quick. Whenever I made my last parts order from the dealer, these were only $0.01 to add to the cart.
