Pre-collision can't be turned off, only adjusted for sensitivity. (two settings, IIRC)

My I use my Cruise Control all the time when at 45 MPH and above on my 2018 SR5. I have also encountered the PCS focus on a vehicle in front of me and manuvering into the left or right hand lane while slowing down for the turn and had the PCS automatically brake even though there was no chance of a collision as the vehicle had completed the lane change.
It seems to be an 50-50 event and because I am aware of this quirk I am ready to accelerate to prevent the truck from slowing and freaking out the persons behind me. I have wondered if the brake light comes on for an instant even thought I have accelerated to prevent actual braking.

i was doing a long roll (about 20 mph) up to an intersection that had a red light. for no reason...absolutely nothing in front of me or noticeable on sides of this 2 lane road...the word "brake" came on the display
and it screamed at me. that lasted for a second or two and stopped. i could see there was construction in the intersection (really just an idle flagger on the other side of the intersection and some cones). nothing unusual at all.
this is either a dangerous glitch and if it happens again it goes back to the dealer, or there was some connection to the construction, like measurement equipment radiating, that set it off.
i've had the truck almost 2 months and it only happened once so far. the brakes did not come on and i forget if i touched the brakes when it came on. i probably did since i was rolling to a stop anyway.

My pre-collision works without CC on (I never use CC).

I was rear ended by a new Tacoma this morning and the driver mentioned that his sensors didn’t work in his Tacoma. It sounds like the sensors may be for vehicle proximity but not accident avoidance?

Mine has gone off maybe 5 times since I have owned this truck. 3 times were legit, 2 times it went off for no reason.

2023 TRD Sport with technology package and mine works without CC being activated. I know for sure, I was driving at around 50 mph and a car in front of me slammed on brakes and before I could even get my foot on the brake pedal my truck activated the pre collision system.

Please do not trust that yours will work the same, a lot of members say it only works with CC on. I can confirm MY TRUCK did activate PC without CC on.

I've had this happen one time when approaching a stopped car at an intersection turn lane. Granted I was "in a rush", but was surprised at the vehicle's brain overriding my driving skills.

I think there is a minimum speed for it to be active. That maybe why. Mine came on once a split second before I jammed on my brakes at about 45mph after the moron in front of me jammed there brakes on for a turkey.
