Is it necessary to fab a new mount for the automatic A340F tranny? Or could i take the mount off a 4x4 and it will just mount up? Im halfway through this swap as well

I didn't have to mod mine. You just have to buy the 4x4 mount but cross member is the same.

Cross member was not the same on mine. It required fab work. The 2wd A340E was longer than the W59 and t case combined, I had to bring the mounting point of the crossmember up and get a trans mount for a W59. Not sure if you swap is the same or not, just a head up.

That's because you used a 5 speed and not the automatic a340f right?

Right. But any swap from a 2wd to a 4wd has to potential to have different placed crossmebers but I cannot say for sure. Just didn't want anyone thinking it was a 100% about on swap if there was some small fab work needed. Granted the fab work on my swap was easy. It was only about two inches off. But the A340F will be shorter than an A340E, but the A340F will have a t case which will make it longer. I just don't know anything about autos expect on how to remove them and replace them with a 5spd lol.

Definitely. I'm trying to see what needs mod and what doesn't. If you swap in a 4x4 auto tranny for a 2wd auto tranny it should use the same cross member. The location changes when you put a 5 speed in because the mounting location for 5 speed is different.
Thanks for sharing and good swap. Totally worth it.

My 4wd conversion went from an A340E A/T to A340F A/T and used the same crossbar

While looking for internet substantiation, I floundered across this. Detailing the process of swapping tailshafts, converting the A340E to an A340F
Just throwing that out there for future reference
Eliminates the need to track down the entire tranny for a swap.

How come some transfer cases have an actuator on the back and some don't?
    Mine has the actuator

Someone correct me if I am wrong, but that actuator is what tells the ADD front axles to lock in or out determined by where your transfer case lever is. In 2 HI, it tells the ADD actuator nothing, but in 4 HI or 4 LO, the t case actuator tells the ADD actuator to lock in the front axle.

If that's the case then would I even need it? I have manual axles and hubs

If you have the manual hub set up, you should not need that actuator. I found a t case out of a truck with manual hubs and did not t not run into this. But my friend, who did the 5spd swap, also swapped to manual hubs, and he still had the add axle and actuator on the t was and had zero issues. I would leave the actuator where it is, you just won't hook it up to anything. Since you front axle does not need the ADD to lock in, you should be fine. Hope your swap goes smoothly man, the only regret you'll have is that you didn't do it sooner.

Will a rear driveshaft of a 2.7L manual transmission fit for my V6 auto?

I wouldn't count on it fitting... Though, it could possibly be lengthened or shortened as needed.

That was the feeling I got.. Not worth buying one and refitting it when I can cut the one I have now.

I'm attempting to do this. I'm starting to gather some parts. I have the diff that matches my rear gear ratio. The problem I'm running into Is that mine is a 2004 auto with the 3.4. So far ive concluded that 2003-2004 4x4 transmission is different from the later years. Is this correct? Is it because I don't have a speed cable?

The transmission is different. Not sure what that has to do with the front diff though.

I was just mentioning the diff because it's the only part I've gotten.

    You are correct.
To simplify things, you'll need the transmission out of an 03-04 4x4 Tacoma. There may be older model 4Runners with the 'drive-by-wire' feature...
It may be possible to convert a pre-2003 transmission to work - I have no experience...
