I have a two wheel drive 2008 Toyota Tacoma PreRunner Access Cab, and the specs for mine are: V6, 4.0L, 5 speed, A750E Transmission.

I'm going to be putting in new transmission fluid, and I was wondering if the two wheel drive PreRunner models have any built in transmission fluid temperature sensor or not? To me it would seem crazy if it did not have one since it's important these overflow transmission type set ups have proper temperature for proper fill level.

Also does anyone perhaps have the proper transmission fluid overflow temperature range for this transmission?

Any help would be very appreciated. Thanks.

Thanks, from what I gather "seavonj" was able to get the light to work in his 2006 Prerunner. But "jarvis210" could not get it to work for his 2005? 2wd TRD sport truck.
So I guess it should work for Prerunner, and for TRD sport it will not.

And if "Fortech" is correct then the upper limit is for 2005+ Tacoma's is 86 *F as per the Toyota factory Service Manual.
I just hope it will work for me like "seavonj" or I'll need to find another way for properly measuring the temperature.

What I suggest you do if you feel you can complete the job is to read the thread so you understand the procedure. When you get a chance try to get your truck into temp check mode while watching the video so the timing is correct.

Fortech mentioned the servicing temperature is below 86°. The correct temperature to check the ATF fluid is between 115°-130°. This is why you must enter temp check mode and Allow the ATF fluid to reach 115° which illuminates the light. Then you go remove the overflow plug. If the ATF fluid is at the correct level ATF will weep out of the plug. If it doesn't you need to add more fluid and re enter temp check mode.

Ok that's good, he was just talking about the the service temp, I do remember reading elsewhere where it was something over the 100 degree range for the level check.

Thanks both of you for the info.

Does anyone know why the service manual says this on page AT-140 :

When the amount of fluid listed in table cannot be added:
    (1) Install the refill plug
    (2) Allow the engine to idle with the air conditioning OFF.
    (3) Move the shift lever through the entire gear range to circulate fluid.
    (4) Wait for 30 seconds with the engine idling.
    (5) Stop the engine.
    (6) Remove the refill plug and add fluid.
    (7) Reinstall the refill plug.

Why would one not be able to add fluid?

I kind of have a idea but I'm new to how the fluid is circulated and how much goes back to the pan ect.

I guess when it says "When the amount of fluid listed in table cannot be added:" it's mainly talking about if you had a full transmission flush and you have to add lots of fluid back. I'm guessing if lots of fluid has to be added back, it might be possible to fill it up to the fill hole level before most of that fluid is circulated to other parts of the truck perhaps.

Thanks, I ended up draining about 2.2 quarts from the pan and adding 2.5 quarts back. I'm going to try the fluid temp check soon.

Well for the record I didn't have a wire, so I used a small rolled up piece of aluminum foil to jump the OBD connector. Then I got the timing from the video and got the AT temp light to work. After about 14 minutes the AT Temp came on solid, I would guess 1/4 to 1/2 cup of excess AT fluid came out. So it worked perfect.
