    Think of 4x4 Tacoma's as the "Base" model and the others are "special editions".

    If your truck is a 4x4 (has a selector inside for 2H, 4H, and 4L) then it is a base model, no matter what lug pattern or trim package it is. If it doesnt have a rear e-locking differential, it's not the TRD.

    Its confusing because the base model was sold with at least 3 trim packages, one of which is also referred to as the "base trim."
