FWIW, I have stuck my 4x4 so bad, an excavator was needed to get it out. Never needed an excavator to get a prerunner out of anything.....

Everything you talked about requires putting $10,000 into a 4x4 to achieve the same result as a prerunner...just leave each to its own strengths.

I've been stuck. I was proudly recovered by a prerunner. Granted he was on more solid ground than I was but none the less he pulled me out.

I will say, just becuase one buys a truck doesn't mean they are into offroading. I bought a truck primarly for the usefulness of having a bed to haul things. Plus, here in NM, there are sometimes that one would use 4wd, but for me I evaluated the 4wd vs 2wd before I bought my 2009 after my 2006 was totaled, and I could not justify spending the extra money on something that I might use once or twice a year. Plus, my wife drives a Subaru, so if we need AWD, we use the Subaru. So each person's situation is different to why they did not buy a 4wd.

    BINGO! Rep for yoU!

    This is a stupid thread.

990% of any off roading is Driver. For every 4x4, there is another one that can do something better. My Prerrunner does a splendid job of driving to work......wait......well...when Im working.....And a great job of pulling my boat to the lake, which is why I got it. Had the 4x4 been cheaper, I still would have gotten the Prerunner. I simply didnt want a DD with front drive components to have to fuck with, but wanted more ground clearance than my Accord for going down dirt roads, towing the boat, etc.

Don't want the extra weight, don't need it as I don't 4 wheel in my 30k truck and don't want the extra maintenance. Also don't want to pay to have it fixed when it breaks after my warrenty expires. I think that just about covers it. No snow in Austin, Tx so no rust either :)

OK fine... stock for stock... the 4x4 and the prerunner have same suspension travel. you can race a 4x4 or 4x2 all day long, the 4x2 is going to probably beat it but by how much a couple tenths in a 1/4 mile. who buys a prerunner for speed and racing. buy a xrunner for that. race in the desert? ok ill line up in the sand with a stock prerunner.

Most guys with prerunners do lifts with big tires for offroading because they cant move when stock. lets see how well they accelarate with those 285s... i can keep my 245/75 junk dunlops and do just as much as any prerunner offroading. Even in the sand ill put my stock 4x4 against any stock prerunner...

This thread is stupid but eh in the words of Dennis Leary "IM AN ASSHOLE e ole e ole!!!" so i argue

LOL seriously im just argueing for the sake of arguing throwing my points out there and again these PRErunners are awesome trucks. Ive never seen a 2x go anywhere these prerunners go...great trucks imo.

I can accelerate plenty fine... and what about all the 4x4s that lift and fit bigger tires? BTW my acceleration is fine with my 33s... and a lot better than the dunflops.

I think most people buy prerunners for price, less maintenance and fuel economy. You are the one who was comparing performance.

I'll be happy to go out to Barstow/ Lucurne with you if you dare run against my prerunner on 285s :p

I was saying that prerunners lift to try to go offroading to get over larger obstacles where a 4x4 doesnt need a lift to offroad. larger tires make it easier to roll over rocks. If you have drive to the wheels the tires climb over rocks.

actually it was mentioned that prerunners are faster than 4xs because they are lighter...i was just saying that i dont think that is a good arguement...

and ill go out to lucurne with you. just put your truck back to stock and throw them stock dunnys back on and well be equal:rolleyes:

My original argument is to tell me what a stock prerunner can do that a stock 4x4 cant. I cant list some stuff i can do like go up to big bear with out chains :D

and all i got in response was put you can lift it easier and get more travel.

take either vehicle no mods and see what the differences are
