Ok this may be a vague question but I’m looking at a 2015 pre runner. I’ve never had a 2wd Toyota. Am I gonna be totally disappointed by the pre runner and regret not getting 4x4. My credit suck so that’s all I can get into now as far as a Tacoma goes. No 4x4s I can get approved for. Also it’s a 4 cylinder. I’ve only had V6 tacomas.

Only you can answer the question.

A prerunner is essentially the same truck w/o the front drive gear.

If you don't need 4wd, they are just fine.

    *I* don't even need the 6th lugnut! :D

Doesn’t sound like you have a choice. If you’ve gotten everywhere you need to be in 2WD then you don’t need 4x4. You can build up your credit by paying off that Pre-Runner.

How much snow do you get?
I'm in TN and it seems that 95% of the trucks here are 4WD king cabs. It maybe snows an inch a year here, I'd bet >95% of the people never take their trucks offroad to need the 4WD (I do), and I'd bet >95% of the time that only the driver is in the vehicle. So, 95% of the people here would be fine with a FWD ridgeline or Maverick. But that's not manly enough, so a full size 4WD king cab it is :D

    Also it’s $24k it’s a 2015 double cab 4cylinder/auto with 103k. Is that a fair price?

    Never seen one myself.

Anyways, as long as you don’t plan to haul much weight or tow, I guess it is ok.

I’d probably try to find a cheap 5 lug and save some money.

yeah I probably don’t have to have 4x4. I can avoid all the roads that muddy when it rains or snows. 4x4 would be most used when I go back to my folks house. Aren’t any trails around here but back home they’re are a bunch.

Strangely enough. A guy down the street from me has one. It always looks so bizarre.

I have a prerunner. Ive made it through light snow just fine. I tossed my engine hoist in the bed went along my way.

Seems a little steep for the basest of models but used car prices have been nuts for a while so probably. Looks like it's in good condition.

Comparing to my purchase, it's way steep. but the market has changed a lot.

I paid about $25k for mine, 2014 V6 DCSB Baja, 4x4, rear locker, with 62k miles.

That's a good looking truck. I don't off road so the Prerunner has been perfect for me in KC snow and the little amount here in TN. Reliability on the 2.7L has been great so you should have lots of life left if you do pull the trigger. Best of luck with your decision!

If you've ever owned a 4X4 you will never be happy with a 4x2. I'd always owned a beater 4X4 truck or SUV for hunting, hauling wood etc. along with a decent car. But in August 1983, about 6 weeks before I was supposed to get married, my car was totaled in a crash. Since my future wife already had a car I decided to take the insurance money + sell my old IH Scout to fund a "decently" nice truck. But since I didn't want a loan a used 4X2 was the only thing in my budget.

I should have just bit the bullet and bought a 4X4 truck. I wouldn't have had to borrow much money to make up the difference. I drove that truck for 1.5 years and hated every minute of it. Finally in January 1985 I traded it for a new 4X4 F150 and haven't owned anything that wasn't 4X4 since.

Crazy market doesn't even begin to describe it. Hydro locked the Hyundai Accent I had 3 weeks age (my only vehicle). Would have been close to $8k to put a used motor in. Needed replacement immediately, wanted a 4x4 truck. Worst time in the world to buy. Wanted to spend $30K or less. Had to 160 miles for a 2013 access cab base 4x4 with 76K miles and no tailgate and paid $25250.
