Being a long-time Jeeper and now a brand new Tacoma owner (2013 TRD), I, too, wondered what the heck X-Runners and Pre-Runners were. They aren't mentioned in the dealer brochures I had looked at before purchasing. Maybe, they just didn't give me that info because I had made it very clear that I was looking for a 4X4 for bowhunting. Well, I'm now one baby step closer to being able to talk intelligently about Tacomas. :pccoffee:

Don't feel bad.. This is the question that led me here and I've had mine since 2008 and didn't know. I know it is a TRD Sport but when looking up most parts they ask pre runner or x runner no mention of TRD Sport.

I agree. My 2008 Taco was never sold or marketed to me as either a Pre-Runner or an X-Runner. It was sold to me as an Extra-Cab TRD Off-Road!
These marketing terms used in different markets across different borders are highly confusing when trying to buy after-market parts!
Toyota needs to get their crap together and make it easier to refer to their platforms as the same darn truck.
Don't even get me started on Hilux!!!
