The copper refinery used up the output of a 500 megawatt unit...and I was friendly with the plant manager, his daughter used to babysit for us. As for the big copper mines, I had another good friend who would drive at 240 ton ore hauler. It is a whole different ball of wax.

The silver to gold ratio is ridicules, when it comes out of the ground at 9-1 and 100% of both metals are bought every year.......

This is another reason to buy silver over gold.........

If we ever go to free market this ratio will put silver over 100 an oz right now plus all the other reasons..........

according to the Silver Institute it is what I think because they report both supply and demand............

So if demand keeps going up how is the price low...........

No offense but ALL your data is coming from silverthis.com or buysilver.com or silverislord.com

And if I play along and agree with you that it's naked shorting in the trillions (which I don't) then isn't buying silver NOW a very bad idea? The market is speaking and you can't fight the tape right? Shouldn't you be buying in when the short squeeze occurs?

If you look at the charts they are not correlated at all, when the shorts are broken they will go back to being an inverse relationship.......
PMs price should never go down in free markets, it would be impossible for more money and more people to buy less and less PMs for less money...

Something doesn't add up..... can't just lie and say demand is down, just not true, so how can the price be down???????????

The big O and the fed don't want people buying PMs and will break their system of lies. In the digital world there is no limit for shorts or longs so reality doesn't exist......... But when you buy up the physical is will break the digital shorts, at some point........

How can you sell something you don't have and reduce the price of something real??????? That's how our system works........ Break the PMs and force you to the stock market........

Okay how's this, I know first hand that demand for silver is down in the jewelry market. You can't say demand is way up cause that would be false.

If you are trading ETF it would be stupid to buy in because you're right, can't fight the trade........

Buying physical is sort of fighting the trade but buy removing the underlying asset you put huge pressure on the shorts..........
We are trying to break the digital shorts with physical buying...... It's close but there is just enough supply to maintain inventory...
The silver market is sooooo small that it won't take much more to break the system.........
This year is starting to break the miners and now production is dropping and recycling is down so we'll see.......

When the "institute" is named after the item in question, I'm gonna doubt its credibility... Sorry.

Make you own determination.... I know you don't like silver but here you go again.............

Looks like over all 2014 is just short of 2013..... 2015 has more demand than 2014
mining up slightly... scrap is down......... mines are producing less in 2015
investing demand is way up overall.....
    Industrial use down slightly
and government sale are finally at 0 for the first time in 2014.....

you will spin this as all bad news, but I think a 4.9 million oz deficit is really good news... and 2015 is shaping up to be better......

No one is saying "Don't own silver" or "I don't like silver". Okay? Can we please start using data not provided by registered silver lobbyist groups. Are we going to start taking nutritional habits from McDonalds? This may be too much to ask. How about more data and less rhetoric (and maybe proper standard punctuation).

I know it's not the the Silver Institute, but the USGS does provide independent numbers on domestic silver production and consumption. The only failing/limitation to the data would be the consumption numbers here are reflective of US demand and not on a global scale.

2013, Jewelry & Silverware accounted for approx 402 tons of silver consumption (6% of 6.71k) source
2014, Jewelry & Silverware accounted for approx 483 tons of silver consumption (7% of 6.90k) source

However, the USGS notes "Demand for silver in jewelry, electronic applications, and other industrial applications declined, while the use of silver in brazing alloys, coins, silverware, and solders increased." source So domestically jewelry demand for silver declined in 2014. I can not find any reputable numbers for 2015.

It's really mindblowing how much power is consumed by industry. 500 megawatt?! So... more power than a third of a million homes in the US consume? :smash:

    Christ on a bike.

You should have seen the dump pile for all the waste at this Copper mine... I forget how many, but they had added multiple kilometers of land by dumping their waste rock into the water.

How did demand go down if they used more???

Who's info do we use you show me I'll use it??? I'm using what I find.........
The Silver Institute is not a promoter of silver for investing that I know of......
They are reporting all the data that matches what everyone is saying......
I see the data as mixed but overall silver is taking a positive turn, like I have been saying silver demand is slowly over taking supply...
Dig through the numbers and you can see the trends.........

you guys are just wrong........ demand is going up, not down.........
can't saying the data is wrong when you're wrong...... you have no data to the contrary....
The silver institute may not be perfect but is't a good tool....

So how is demand up and the price down????
And according to USGS production is still down from 2010 and the Lucky Friday mine is back on line.... That is good new for investing, the US is producing less.....

Still don't see the bad news for silver.......

Not to burst your bubble, but the silver institute mentions the promotion of silver a few times in it's mission statement.

I think all people are saying is that it would be nice for you to post some data that isn't either from a site selling silver or a site promoting the silver industry, since those sources are biased. It's a bit like taking gasoline pricing amd production information from Mobil over a third party source...

Exactly, and when my jewelry is cheaper every year and my casters in the US and Japan are super slow and notes a decline in the demand for silver along with other precious metals I don't believe the "silver institute" screaming demand is through the roof as my friends in the industry make less and less each year....
