Toyota app for my LE version doesn't come with connected features (remote start etc.), it only shows current mileage and tire pressure. It also shows nearest dealers, which is sort of useless for me.

I know, but that's the only thing I could do with it, it was sort of useless app anyways. I am still waiting to hear back from Toyota about stopping this insurance tracking.

I was initially planning to pull the fuse or SIM or component which is related to this telematics, but thinking about it more made me realize that this component might related to theft protection also, so it's probably very tightly coupled with car startup process and will be hard to get to or modify.

Were do you see this "driver score"? I'm not seeing it in the app.

Funny how people call you paranoid for being concerned about connected services until dealers start lowering your trade in value due to "hard braking events" or insurance companies raise your rates because they think you drive too fast.

Connected services do not exist to give you piece of mind or convenience, they are a revenue stream and the data they collect is used for the benefit of the companies collecting it. If you were to activate every connected service offered on a new Tacoma, it would cost you over $500 a year.

As far as how data is collected/delivered, all 2020 Tacoma have an integrated 4G cellular modem installed. It is used by Toyota for data collection even if you do not activate it. Since I am in the market for a 2020, I compiled as much information as I could on connected services and how they work. Please correct me if any of this is inaccurate.

When you buy a new vehicle at the dealer, they submit your information and a form to Toyota registering you for the tracking. When I bought mine, it was a transfer from another dealer. The salesman knew I wasn't a fan of data collection based on my occupation and let me know about the registration completed on the back end processes. He left the form for me to follow up.
