Trucks I posted above have fiberglass bedsides with rack built off of bed cage. What are you running for rear suspension? Do you still have your factory tie down cleat rails?

I am in the process of saving for a suspension that can handle my requests lol and I only have the rails on the cab, not the bedsides.

I was curious about if it was possible to fabricate supports that weld onto the frame and go up to the bedsides where you can then place a rack. Does the frame flex too much for something like that?

This is what I did...tied into the shock towers and bed bolts. Of course if you have a true bed cage, I would use that since it ties into the frame.

I see. Looks nice. In the future I’m doing the archive relocation towers so no bed cage for me. I was picturing running tubes from the frame up to the bedside, then having a removable rack that bolts on and off at the point of the flat part of the bedsides. Now this is all just thoughts in my head lol. I am going to school for welding this upcoming fall so hopefully over the next few years I can learn enough to start fabricating things I’m thinking of.

At some point there was a company that made a bed rack that mounts off your bed bolts, instead of relying on the bed sides. Forget who it was, and pretty sure they don't make it anymore though...

I saw one like that, the only thing I didn’t like is that the rack was level with the cab. And I’m not quite sure how strong the composite beds are lol

Yea I wouldn't trust the bed with that much weight. Diy it? Find a rack with the height you want, and start gluing more tube to it?

Yeah I plan on doing some custom stuff in the future. Like I said above I’m about to be in school for welding so after I am more knowledgeable about fabricating then I’ll try and build something.

You could probably do something off of the bed bolts, but then you end up with a jungle gym in the truck that just takes up bed space to hold the tent...At that point i'd say just go with a nice ground tent or a Tent Cot. Set ups in about the same time as a RTT.

My vote would be to do a simple bed cage for the rear shocks and then have the tent mounted to that.... Put in on gas struts so it's easy to load when you don't have a tent one you can use the rack for mtbs or whatever .. or unbolt the whole rack and just have empty bed...

this is my set up on my prerunner.

Yeah I saw your truck in the previous posts, really digging that set up. That would be something I’d be interested in doing for mine.

Tent cots are freaking awesome. Picked up the idea from one of the DMC/BLGT guys, and absolutely love it.

Those DMC/BLGT guys are up to no good...

I haven't slept in mine for like 4 years but I won't get rid of it haha cause when the time comes I know I'll be stoked to have it.
Especially with the 4 runner I just picked up.

Shit, I hardly use the RTT nowadays.. I've gone soft with the RV life... I just flat tow the prerunner with the RTT for street cred(more like the truck rides way better with extra 120 lbs on the back haha.) :anonymous:

Bay Area Metal Fab (BAMF) and Brute Force Fab make bed bolt mounted racks. I've been running normal bed bars to the bed rails, but I added support to them with the BAMF front corner supports (ties the side rails to front rails) and bedside supports similar to the Total Chaos ones. So far so good, but who knows how long the glass will last lol

I've really wanted to go run with them, but I still have a bunch of stuff to do on the truck to make sure I can keep up. I got to meet Scott at a Terra event and fangirled/drooled about how clean his runner is.

Scott's one of my best buddies.. his 4 runner is badass...we picked that thing up in Denver from his sister's house years ago haha.. crazy what it has evolved to.

Y'all seem like a rad group of guys. The cleanup is already in my calendar! Looking forward to helping out and getting to try that bbq.

Looks like a pretty epic venture to get that thing as it sits
