    Looking for a reasonable priced preloaded tune device for a 2023 V6. Does this forum favor a particular brand or seller? I’m from the car world and use to SCT devices which save your stock tune and other tunes loaded, like street and track. Mainly looking for a performance street tune with possible shift upgrades as well. Thanks

    Does not exist.

    Tunes must be installed by laptop for the 3rd gen Tacoma - it requires between 1 and 2 ECU flashes to do. This can be a DIY thing (with purchase of cable software, and tune license), or you can pay someone to do it for you. It depends on whether you plan on tinkering with the tune.

    I don't think there's really a thing like that for these trucks. Most folks seem to be using an OTT or KDMax tune flashed by a tuner.

    Okay, thanks. Did not know that. Problem for me having someone flash it would be not being able to flash back to stock for warranty work .

    I've yet to hear of anyone one here having the dealer notice their truck being tuned. AFAIK the dealer isn't able to dig that far into the PCM nor is anyone their likely to know is what the programming is supposed to be vs what it actually is. I got the OTT tune which helps with the gear hunting on the automatics, adds a little torque, and if desired can make the gas pedal a bit more responsive. I also did a spacer between the upper and lower intake manifolds to put the peak torque at a lower RPM. While not life changing, the two seem to compliment each other nicely. IMO what these trucks really need is a more aggressive gear ratio in the axles.

    The dealer (and local emissions testing) can absolutely see if the truck's ECU has been flashed. Whether they care in the end is a different story but if you blow the engine and try to make a warranty claim while tuned it would likely come up.

    The state run emissions inspection centers in states that have the standard that CA and CO do will see the ECU checksum is not what's expected. Unless things have changed I don't believe the software the dealer uses sees it.

    Any handheld basic OBD scanner can see the CVN checksum. It's a common check on performance cars (especially Dodge Hellcats) and has lead to many warranty denials.

    Coming from Fords I know they can tell if a tune has been loaded on a car. Maybe it’s just Ford/Chevy/ Dodge that can do that since their systems are easily manipulated by a tuner.

    I’ll have to try the things you mentioned, just want a little more, especially the pedal response.

    Banks Pedal Monster will give you your pedal response. It gets power from the OBDII port, so it won't throw codes like the pedal commander can taking power from the pedal circuit. It is also easily removable for trips to the dealer.

    I’d you’re going to use a throttle controller instead of tune, banks is 100% the way to go

    look for a pedal commander used or something along those lines. People tend to want more and search it out.

    Tune, Gears, Supercharger.

    That doesn't mean pressing the pedal more is the same thing. The lag between you pressing the pedal and the truck reacting will be there until you get a tune or pedal commander.

    :rofl::rofl::rofl::rofl:

    Since you know so much, please tell me what I've purchased. You're statement was literally not correct. Stepping harder on the gas pedal does not do the same thing as a tune or pedal commander.

    No one cares what you purchased, pedal commander just adjusts the signal to the ECU Its not a hard concept to understand that if it reads your foot at 40% and translates it to 50% as an example. So Yes just press the pedal more (not harder) and you will accomplish the same thing while saving 300 dollars. What magic do you think it does?

    The computer can do it faster than I can. Not all smoke and mirrors.
