Premature Wheel Bearing Wear

    I recently installed new Koyo bearings on my '99 along with a pretty much brand new front end about 5-7k miles ago in October and I thought i heard my brakes dragging the other day. When i went to inspect them my passenger side wheel has entirely too much play. More than when i replaced the 300k mile wheel bearings. Drivers side still feels brand new. I'm sure its the wheel bearing after tearing the brakes off and looking at it.. Did i just get a bad bearing? Am I supposed to replace the hub at the same time because I did not for either one. These bearings are sealed and do not require grease. I figure I either got a bad one or the guy pressing it in somehow messed it up.

    5 lug or 6 lug? 4x4? I think your history shows pre-runner so I'll guess 6 lug 2WD.

    The press style bearings rarely fail prematurely, usually its install error on the press that causes this, or final cv axle torque being inadequate.

    Actually don't see many prerunners in Canada so no idea how they assemble front bearings.

    You are correct on the truck. So get it pressed somewhere else and check the torque on it...I might open up the back of the bearing and find the nut is loose if you're right. Someone told me to replace the hub because it can cause problems. Is that a thing?

    I reuse hubs on 99% of bearing press's I do. I only replace them after accidents.

    Hub issues are usually out of round causing vibrations.

    I'd start with the retorque.

    Bearing was bad. Got it replaced and on the truck, but still sounds like a jet engine winding up when i go 45+. I dont understand it, but praying that it could be my semi-metallic brakes making noise. Truck has a recent alignment, new ball joints, bearings, and tie rod ends. Seems like the noise is out of the passenger side so its not looking good for this bearing and its the same side as the last one. Napa checked everything out (specs on hub, etc. because explained my situation and a premature bearing failure) and installed this new bearing for me. Besides checking the alignment which is unlikely what could possibly be wrong?
