I've got to somehow convince the factory to give me a key instead of a push button on my Limited...

What can I say, I'm old school like that. I know it sounds ridiculous, but I just like the feeling of putting a key in and turning it. Part of the driving experience for me.

you can read about it in the owners manual https://techinfo.toyota.com/techInf...5U.html&locale=en&openSource=TechinfoPrelogin

Basically it uses a shortwave radar pointed at your blindspot. It starts working above 10mph. If it detects something all it does is turn on an indicator on your outside mirror.

Thank you very much Mr tubesock. That certainly sounds logical! I do think it's something I would like to have. I wonder if it would be easy to see on a sunny day.

You even answered what was going to be my next question. If it starts working at 10mph than I guess it will not tell you if someone is walking up to your car from a place that you can't easily see. I know that's not the purpose of the blindspot monitor. I was just thinking it would have been a nice added benefit. Thank you again :).

The rear cross traffic alert (RCTA) system sort of does what you describe. That one works only in reverse though. Its designed to detect cross traffic when you're backing out of a driveway or parking spot, which would be helpful if your vision is blocked by a big van or bushes or something. If it detects something it will beep at you. It uses the same sensors as the blind spot monitoring. I don't know if it would be sensitive enough to reliably detect pedestrians. But you can use the system when you are not moving, as long as you're in reverse.

Note: I thought I read it would detect pedestrians....but I can't prove it. Will have to look.

Have fun with that, should be a fun conversation. Having used one on a Challenger driving from Philadelphia to L.A. I can say the most annoying thing for me was remembering to press the brake. Other then that it was pretty solid. My dumb left foot kept popping the hood on that Challenger when releasing the parking brake though, silly parking brake belongs on the console.

Do you think lifting the truck will affect the capability of the blind spot monitoring and the rear cross traffic alert? Also with bigger tires how is crawl control going to be affected. What I mean is, I would think it's calibrated for the stock set up. Just noob technological questions.

Probably, here is the image from the manual PDF. Those sensors are used for BSM, RCTA, and the backup assist thingy

This image shows the parking sensors. The BSM and RCTA use a different set of sensors and have different range capabilities based on which mode its in.

Has anyone seen if you can get a TRD OR with leather seats?
I thought that package would include the leather but I am now thinking the only way you can drape your ass in luxury is to buy a Limited?

Ask your dealer if they can set you up with Classic Soft Trim.

When I worked at a Honda dealership, Classic Soft Trim installed leather interiors on non-leather cars.

Their product is amazing as is their installation and priced very fairly.

You should be able to get their leather installed for under $700

Is that installation or installation and product for $700? I might be looking at aftermarket leather down the road after the seats get some wear first.

Is there anyway to get the premium package without the moon roof?

You can get an Access Cab, but that's an extreme measure if you wanted a DC.

The bundling of options doesn't really allow folks to fine tune their truck. I assume Toyota is taking this route to reduce the number of options and streamline production. Maybe later in production (like a few years) they will de-group some of the options. I guess the market will decide.

Have an access cab now. I am planning on a DC.
