Can you provide a link for the ********* wiring harness you refer to? Thanks!

I am ordering the suggested Subaru tweeters soon and I was wondering does the plastic connector only connect to the tweeter one way? Meaning if the connector is flipped upside down will it also snap into the the tweeter or not? I’m certainly not an audio expert.

I can’t remember but trust me, if I didn’t screw it up, you will be just fine. LOL. I did find it easier to take the A pillar trim off and I didn’t disconnect the battery. No issues at all and it took about 20 minutes (mainly because I had trouble getting to the back bolt by the windshield). If you have a flexible head wrench it will be much easier.

I installed the Kicker upgrades yesterday and it sounds f*%king awesome! I did upgrade the fronts to the KS series, and the Subaru units should be here any day.

I do have a question though: has anyone installed a 6 3/4" subwoofer. Something like this...?

    JL-Audio-C5-650cw-RP.html

I am curious if the head unit (non-JBL) could drive it, and would it sound reasonably good? Any info out there on this set-up?

I am running JL component's myself. I will tell you that with just the components up front, the stock HU could not power them effectively. I am awaiting a box from Mr marv for a JL 10W3 and wiring harness for my AMP.

First two items on that page depending on your rear. Wish I would have gone that route from the get go. Bout the subaru tweeters which are nice, however going Component from the beginning is really the way to go. The setup everyone is running from the 1st page of this has at least 6 tweeters which is extremely ridiculous.

So, the HU isn't enough to power them. What kind of amp are you installing? I'm trying to get a grip on cost/benefit.
EDIT: Oh, I see. You have an amp and are upgrading to 10" subs.

Some have also had good luck with a kicker hideaway powered sub and reported good results without adding an independent amp

A Kicker hideaway... I have an Access Cab. I will have to look into fitment for a hide away.

There’s only one way to connect these. One side is flat and the other side has a little slot that you have to push to disconnect.

Trust me, you can’t screw that up.

Never mind the tweeter adapter. I found it useless. I cut the wires from the factory tweeter and used that to splice in to the crossover so I could reuse the gray connector.

SR5 which is the Entune Plus I think without navigation (unless you use the crap scout app)

I am going with a 5 channel amp which only powers 60 to the doors so I can keep stock wiring, you can get a 4 channel which does similar for very cheap if not running a sub, 5 channel for one sub (~$200). The JL's you listed only need 75 watts so you could also keep your stock wiring with that setup (less than 80 watts, would go 60 watts personally).

I’ve got the premium package with nav. I’m pretty sure the amp is a 400w amp. Should be enough to power what you got? More power can’t hurt though!

More power would be better, that amp is powering 7 speakers, not even close to what the speakers can take (or need in the case of higher stuff like JL). Just to power the door speakers you need a 400w amp (there is no amp on any of the systems outside of JBL).

If I had a JBL system I would just change the front door speakers and sound deaden the whole car. Possibly still add a separate sub/amp (way down the priority list).

You don't have to disconnect the battery, but you should. You dont want an airbag going off. Odds are it wont, but that could be bad.

Dumb question but I haven't pulled my panels off yet, is there a stock crossover in the front door?

There is no factory crossover for the tweeter. The Infinity Reference tweeters come with a passive crossover, which I installed here.

Thats what I thought. I purchased Kicker tweeter and front speakers from Crutchfield but they were not a matched set that included a crossover. So are there generic crossovers or are they usually speaker specific?

What upgrades did you make to your truck (speaker types, amplifier, sub). Especially interested since you run a 2nd Gen.

Appreciate your patience with the guy who wants his 8-track to come back in style!

I had no issues. I wouldn’t go banging around the A pillar with a mallet but taking it off and being careful and it should be fine. The only thing I would have done differently would have been to replace the crappy factory weather stripping on the A pillar.
