Those speakers are a woofer and a tweeter, and no mid-range unit. So if your goal is to avoid having too much tweeter up front, this isn't the answer.

I ordered the ones from the original post. They're on sale for $79 right now. Also got the rears for $55.

Thanks for the heads up for sure. Just ordered the ones from the OP as well. Not a bad deal at all. Already installed the tweeters about two months back and they made a vast improvement, so I'm looking forward to getting these bad boys in!

If the powered sub or amp accepts high level inputs you can just tap the speaker wires and wont need a LOC or LC2i. I'd have to check my saved threads but I saw someone built a harness with a male and female end that they plugged into the head unit. This basically allowed them to tap into the wires on the harness so that they dont modify the stock wiring, as well as give them an easy remote wire to use for the amp.

Looks like the post Im referring to is #2383 in this thread and here as well:
    https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads...de-to-the-250-3rd-gen-premium-upgrade.541375/

You could add the LC2i later if you feel like the bass diminishes too much as you turn up your volume. Some stereos decrease low frequency voltage as the volume is turned up, the LC2i has a feature to reverse that. Im not sure if the stock tacoma stereo does this though.

Thank you kindly for the info! I’m going to be scouring this thread and a couple others so I’m well informed before installing.

Finally got around to installing the Kicker tweeters this afternoon (been sitting in a box for 3 months!) and WOW! 20 minute job, big improvement! I'll live with just the tweets for now but I see the doors and sub upgrade in my future! Thanks to the OP and all who have commented and advised on this thread. Well worth it!

I just put the fronts in this morning. Didn't even have to remove the door or use a bungie. When I pulled the bottom up the top stayed in place, so I just reached underneath, pulled the old one and put in the new. Wrapped the connector in foam and taped it so it wouldn't rattle. Took about 45 minutes I guess. Well worth it. Like many I mainly didn't listen to music while driving. To me it was tiring because my brain was listening for things I knew were there, but were so muddled you could barely hear them. I am very happy with how it sounds now.

It's very well worth the $, time and effort, though if you have to choose, get the tweeters first.

Edit - I just realized it was about 30 minutes for the install and 15-20 minutes listening and driving around after I was done. So it really didn't take long and was super simple to do.

I finally got around to this.I missed the sale on the Kickers so went with Rockford Fosgate Prime 6×9 and 6.75's 2 ways for $40 a pair with the Subaru tweeters.Huge difference, I am really happy with the volume and clarity of sound now.

Did the fronts today, tweeters the other day. Clarity I would say is excellent , bass is Good. Obviously a sub would help,I don't need it.May do the rears, but as of now i'm very happy.

Yes capacitors are cheap for this size.. about $.25, a quarter or so.

OK did the door speakers today.

I have a few things that make this process REAL easy.

1st thing it's much easier to take off the door lock/window switch panels off the door and unplug them first. Instead of trying to do it after you take the door panel off. WAY easier.

2nd thing - the trim covers behind the rear view mirrors... take them off and then you take the white retaining clips out of the hole they are in and attach to the trim panels before you put them back on. leaving them in place is not the proper way to install them. Take them off and install them on the trim piece then they snap in place. There are the trim pcs behind rear mirrors on the front door and there are trim pcs with the same hardware on the rear door. The little white grommet things will just press thru and into the door and you are fucked without them if you try and push the trim pieces back into place without removing the grommets and re-installing them on the trim pcs before re-install.

Yes remove the door panels - very easy took me 1.5 hrs to remove and install all speakers.

Trick on the trim pcs I just posted and there's a vid on youtube that gives you the rest.

Basically all you need is a electric screw driver with phillips and a few door trim tools. I only needed 1 small flat edged plastic too could have put electrical tape on a big flat head screw driver in a pinch.

It's much easier to disconnect wires for the locks and windows by taking that panel off the door first and you can use both hands to with the wire clips.

Then remove the door - 2 screws and pull the btm front corner on the rear door, and pull the back corner on the front doors. Just give it a good yank... unclip and lift up and off. Really takes about 10 minutes per door and the speakers (if you wanna call them that) are held in place with 4 phillips/10mm screws up front per speaker and 3 phillips/10mm screws on the rear speakers. Skip using a 10mm ratchet. An electric screw driver is MUCH faster. You could use a 10mm on a electric driver as well. Just not a ratchet.. I'd still be there working on it.
