I think you will be pleased. I ran with just the tweeters for a short while, and while it was significantly better, it was still a bit muddy and distorted at volume. Adding the doors was another big improvement.

 

i had a gift card for crutchfield so i also ordered some sound deadening material for the door. any suggestions on where to put it?

 

I didn't use any, but I've been driving these trucks forever and they are way quieter than they used to be. Others may have better opinions, but if it were me, I would concentrate on the area immediately surrounding the driver. Which means covering the inside of the front doors as much as seems needed, and then using what is left (if any) on the inside of the rear doors. They already have some sound deadening stuff in there, so focusing on areas where it may seem thin would seem appropriate.

Some people put some on the inside of the outer door skin, but I'm not sure that does anything extra if you cover the inside.

 

I think the main purpose of stuff like dynamat is to reduce rattles/vibrations. I used the Noico stuff in mine. I probably covered 50% of the outer down skin and all the flat surfaces on the inner. Around the speaker and behind the speaker are probably the most important parts to do. One big benefit of sticking this stuff on is how the doors sound when you shut them, especially the rear doors. Those things sound so cheap when shut, but much improved after dynamat stuff.

 

The back of the truck and rear doors is where most of the noise comes from. How much material did you get?

The tweets showed up early so I installed them real quick. Much clearer. But now Ida if I want to change out the doors..

 

The doors are a real improvement. I found it very worthwhile.

 

the simple tweeter upgrade...a gateway drug into another blackhole of upgrades.

 

This is bang on the money. Before I could crank it to max and then felt I should back off due to distortion / sound quality getting sketchy. Now if I want I can crank it to max and it sounds like it can take more instead of wondering if the stock speakers would pop. Windows down it is barely able to overcome the wind noise but it does it clearer than stock but my hideaway powered sub also helps the sound with windows down.

 

The Crutchfield box showed up last night so I put the kids to bed, kissed the wife and head out to the garage to instill the door speakers.

The rear speakers were a breeze to install and only 10 min a door.

The front speakers were a major pain in the ass because of the Crutchfield install kit. The holes on the speakers did not line up with the mount holes and the hardware that came with it was to small to work. So I had to find 8 matching bolts and nuts then drill and mount the speakers to the mount. After all was said and done it took me just over an hour to do the fronts.

The end result is amazing and I'm kicking myself in the ass for not doing this sooner. The sound is just clean and crisps and I would say about 25 to 30% louder.

 

Give it a few weeks. The bass will really kick in at lower volumes. I only had a couple hundred miles on my truck when I did it. I couldn't imagine putting up with the stock speakers longer than that lol.

 

The tweeter upgrade was really a good improvement for my system.

The junk tweeters that came out amazed me in that sounded as good as they did given their whimpy construction.

Waiting now on the door speakers to arrive....reminds me that I need to get some of that sound dampening material to put on the doors.

Putting a sound system in my truck was the first mod I made. I had an 06 Tacoma and I remember how terrible the paper think speakers were. So when I purchased my 17, I knew what to do first. I also put sound deadening material in and I was pleasantly surprised how much road noise was reduced and how deep the bass was. Installed a subwoofer behind the seat as well. Kickers all around.

What sub are you using if you don't mind me asking?

 

Got everything installed yesterday in about 1.5 hours. Highs and mids and nice and clear and crisp. Low end is now as "boomy" as factory but appears to be more accurate. Also, fronts are louder than the rears. Overall a nice upgrade for under 250. Still might need to do a powered sun
