I think the general rule is most if not all aftermarket speakers will benefit from running off an amp but you may not need it for what you want from your sound system.

Ammo is for the stock speakers ;)

I’m about to order a pair of kicker 43csc6934 6x9’s for The front doors of my 2012 from Crutchfield. It’s the only thing in my cart. Crutchfield says they won’t fit my truck, so I’m worried if I order them they won’t send the adapter plate or anything that I need to install it.

Anyone order these for their second gen and have the mounting hardware come with it?

Also, are the speakers plug and play? Or do I need anything else?

    Thanks

Are the mounts in your cart with the speakers? Have you tried calling or emailing Crutchfield?

Just took out the Alpine Powerpack and installed the new Kicker Keysmart amp. After using the auto tune function with pink noise, this system is fantastic. High soundstage, way better than before.

There is a vent under that seat you can mess with / seal off for a cleaner flatter install. That’s what we did

Crutchfield has a BOGO 50% off sale on most Kicker speakers right now, like the OP. So 4 DS series 6.5in are under $100 and 4 CS series 6.5in are $105.

Awesome write-up and info here. Ended up purchasing from the OP links. I'll probably install next week as I have time off.

    Thanks again TW.

Not sure if it has been covered, but has anyone replaced the speakers with just a woofer like comes from the factory or is everyone replacing them with woofers that have tweeters in them? I would like to keep the set up similar to the component set up from the factory if at all possible.

Looked up the OEM. Front look like components and the rear look like they are the combo

The component route would be a good way to go. You won't be doing it for $250 however. Fitment could also be a concern so be sure when ordering. I'm sure that's why this particular upgrade is so popular.

    Too much.
Yes, I did. I had left over PPI 6.5" woofer drivers, and they work fantastic.

I was concerned with there being to much high going on in the front, plus those speakers are just to good not to use.

Very nice!!!! Exactly the idea I had. I have even found some 6x9 woofers as well. I have the same concern. I literally listen to every style of music but blue grass, so having the versatility to listen to R&B as well as classical with no subwoofer in the back is big for me

Yes, quite few people have replaced the front speakers with components (and coaxial in the rears - coaxials are the combo woofer/tweeter speakers).

It's actually recommended that you do it this way, but since it's so easy and cheap for people to just do as the OP has done, many have gone with coaxials in the front instead of just a woofer. It's not a bad thing, but they either live with the extra treble, or they tweak their settings through an EQ, amp, or a sound processor.

After several weeks of changing all the door speakers I am still very pleased! I am getting a bit of a rattle from the drivers side door so I ordered some Noico and as soon as it arrives I'll add some too all four doors for good measure. Starting to look at amps/subs. Really can't decide where I want to go with this next. This is a great thread and have learned a lot from everyone's purchases and experiences! Many thanks to you all!
