So do the door speakers really make a vast improvement over stock as far ass bass is concerned? Just ordered the Sti tweeters but so far am happy with the bass that the stock speakers produce.

I found the stock door speakers to be a bit muddy. Volume was not an issue, it was more about clarity. For me, replacing them with a higher quality speaker just sounds better, not exactly louder, and definitely not "thumping" bass.

Just wondering if bass volume is about the same with better clarity. I’ve replaced factory speakers before and found that they also improve the highs but don’t improve the bass. Obviously a sub would be best for that, but not wanting to do that currently.

I would say the bass volume is about the same, definitely not worse.

Thanks for the info. I’ll start with the tweeters when they come in and go from there.

I'm not sure about the Tacoma's but on my wife's Camry with the JBL system it runs off of 2 ohms and not 4ohms that non JBL vehicles have. The the kickers work best with 4 ohms. If your truck JBL runs on 2 ohms the speakers will not be loud enough because of that reason. Anybody know what the non JBL Tacoma's have in regards to ohms?

All the OEM plastic speakers I pulled out today had "4ohms 20watts" stamped on them.

Does your stereo have the knobs at the bottom or top?

My truck is being traded in, if anyone wants this whole setup (only the tweeters have been installed, but will come in the original box, only used for 2ish weeks). $220 shipped.

Ok, maybe a stupid question but I cannot seem to find a answer in here. Are the tweeters the only "Subaru" part? or are the door speakers from a subaru as well. The only part number listed that comes up from Suby is the tweeters

Only the Tweeters are a subaru part. The rest are the same brand speakers (the subaru tweeters are a kicker speaker made for subaru) but are straight Kicker brand

Ok thank you. One of my buddies is a Subaru rep and can get me a killer deal on the tweeters and some other stock Kicker speakers they have. Wanted to make sure they are the same..

The Subaru "Kicker" tweeter uses the same connector as the stock Toyota Tacoma tweeter, so it is plug and play, no splicing etc. That is why it is a very popular upgrade. For the door speakers, Crutchfield provides the appropriate wiring harnesses, and mounting hardware, for the brand of speakers you pick. The Kicker door speakers are popular for their price and performance.

For the tweeters do you have to remove the weather stripping near the a pillar?

No. But you do lift it under when putting it back. It'll make sense when you're putting it back together.

Watch this YouTube video - everything will make sense. It is dead-simple.
Tweeter install starts at about the 4:00 minute mark.
