Anyone use these to mount component tweeter in dash:

    https://www.amazon.com/Speaker-Adap...1-5&keywords=toyota+speaker+adapters+tweeters

With the JBL crew cab setup. Can I change the dash and front door speakers to the below linked component speakers and NOT use the crossovers. Will it work. It seems the JBL amp controls the crossover point, However that may or may not be correct. I have not found any evidence that each speaker has a crossover of some sort attached to it. Supposedly the JBL amp is an 8 Channel DSP amp supplying different wattages based on resistance to each set of speakers (the sub as 2 speakers in a DVC setup). I am hoping the amp is also the crossover, yet I cannot prove this.

I used pipe strap from Lowe’s and made my own.

For those running the Key amp, do you lose any functionality of the head unit? If later on running a sub, is a LC7i necessary, or can just a L2Ci be run just for the sub?

You lose zero functionality, it just sounds a ton better. You can just use the LC2i for a sub and amp. If you use the Hideaway or other powered sub, you won’t need it.

How’s the sound on the Key amp with oem wiring? Or did you upgrade?

Here's what I ordered. Any tips or suggestions for install? Never swapped speakers in a vehicle that had tweeters so main question is how do I wire the front doors?

Crutchfield said the 6x9 would not fit due to mounting depth in the 2nd gen so I opted for the 6.5 inch.

Fine. I did run new wires to the new tweeter harness, but to the doors after that is still factory wiring. Sounds fine. You'd have to be pushing a lot more power to the doors for it to matter.

Those tweeters come with any kind of in-line crossover or anything to filter out lower frequencies?

Never mind. I looked them up, they do.

You are going to have to do some cutting of the tweeter plug in the dash. The factory wiring runs from the head unit to the tweeter plug in the dash. From there it splits and goes to the door speakers.

You could also get the ********* tweeter harness if you don’t want to cut the tweeter plugs in the dash.

Got all of my speakers installed yesterday.

For my Access Cab, I got 18 sq.ft. of the sound deadening mat which was enough. https://www.amazon.com/dp/B012B5EMGO/ref=dp_prsubs_3

The rear door panels on the Access Cab are held in with red clips which break much easier than the white clips used on the front doors. I would recommend getting at least 10 spare clips to have if you need them. The Toyota part number is 90467-09240.

Also, if you live in the rust belt, I would recommend spraying some rust proofing of your choice inside the doors while you have them opened up.

Probably because it is factory refurbished -- but nothing wrong with that, at least you know somebody did a full test on it. That's a good deal. I have done entire systems with refurb and scratch n dent stuff for pretty cheap.

Thank you so much for this post! I was very underwhelmed with the factory speakers and this made a night and day difference.

Did you have to purchase an additional wiring harness to install it?

    Great info.

Looks like the rear door speakers work for both front and rear on a 2nd gen. I’m sure this was discussed already somewhere in this thread.

Does anyone know if the tweeters in the OP will work in a 2nd gen, or have a link to tweeters that will work? I’m sure this has been discussed in these 140 pages as well.

The tweeters don’t work for 2nd Gens. I’m sure any tweeter will work in a second gen, the sole benefit of these are they have the same connector. Also check out the KS series speakers, they’re a step up from the CS series. Sometimes you can get them for the same price.
