You have any pictures? I don't want to go crazy with the stuff, but willing to try installing some strategically placed pieces.

I definitely learned the hard way today with the white clips. Took about 45 minutes to fish them out. Then...I couldn't find the screw for the door handle part because it was stuck to the magnet of the speaker...and didn't realize it until after I unscrewed the speaker from the door.

Did I miss something? I thought the tako toons camry harness was PNP for the 2020s for the kicker key?

I ordered the Subaru Kicker tweets a couple of days ago from eBay and just ordered the Kicker front and rears from Crutchfield today. Once they are installed I'll find out if I want to install a Key amp. I have no doubt though that it will improve the stock sound.

I don't know as I don't have the Kicker Key. I ordered speakers from Crutchfield and the harness they sent for the speakers fit peerfectly.

It improved the stock sound but is missing a lot of bass information. Think Beastie Boys "Super Disco Breakin'" when they say "nothing sounds quite like an 808".

I don't need it to shake my fillings, but would like that bass to be heard. I know these speakers can do it as I had stockers in my 1st gen and the aftermarket head unit was able to reproduce that info. Again, not booty shakin', but it is there. Does that make sense?

I'm sure the shortcoming is in the stock head unit. I'm not going to change that, so intersted to hear if the Key helps in that respect.

The lack of bass comes from lack of power. The factory radio just doesn’t have the horsepower to properly drive new speakers. It can do decent with the factory paper speakers, but once you put in speakers with thicker stiffer cones, beefier surrounds, larger voice coils, etc, the factory power can’t push them enough to reproduce bass frequencies well. More power = more bass. So the key definitely helps

I have the Subaru/Kicker tweeters and 4 Kicker CS door speakers, no amp, no sub - I'm pretty happy with the bass. Like you said, not earth shaking, but it's enough to make my rear-view mirror vibrate at 25+ volume. I know it depends on the source (FM, SAT, BT, etc.) and it depends on the song too. Also, have you tried adjusting the 3-band EQ? My sweet spot is, Treble: one to the right / Mid: one to the left / Bass: two to the right.

EDIT: may also take a little time for the new door speakers to break in.

It took me a while to convince myself to add the Kicker Key since it was almost as much as the rest of the upgrade. Very glad I did, and it's a nice piece of engineering. I've got some panel buzzes going on that I need to chase down, though.

Sorry, just saw this. I don't have other pics than what I had in that post. The pieces on the inside, stuck to the outer panel were cut as 6" x 12" to fit through the speaker hole and stuck on where I could reach, then rolled.

wouldn't the factory JBL head unit have slightly more juice/output than the nonJBL headunit?

Well in the JBL system, the head unit is not actually outputting any power. It’s all coming from the amp mounted back by the sub. Even with that amp, it’s still not putting out much compared to anything aftermarket. Aside from the subwoofer, the JBL system seems (to my ears) less powerful than even a standard aftermarket radio, which will only put out 15-20w per speaker. Which means the JBL system (again, to my ears) is probably in the 10-15w range to the front doors. Probably 10w to the tweeters, and probably 5w to the rear doors.

these are merely guesses based on volume level and clarity I have observed

You're a wealth of knowledge. On that note, upgrading the factory sub on a JBL edition TRD (with plastic panel enclosure behind rear seat), I don't want to cut this panel out to fit an aftermarket sub box - so could I fit an aftermarket sub box under that plastic panel (where the stock JBL sub and amp currently are hiding)? I'd also like to throw an amp back there too to power the aftermarket door speakers and potentially (ideally) an aftermarket sub.

I thought there was not a pnp harness for the 2020 rear doors. Crutchfield didn't add one to my cart ?
