    I just did that job. Now I remember why I changed them out in the first place. :)

    I just swapped my front door speakers for JL Audio C1-690x coaxial speakers, disconnect the rears and bypassed the dash speakers. It sounds so much better. I can confirm the rears receive little to no power with the stock head unit so there is no point in replacing them. These speakers paired with a 10” JL Audio sub sounds pretty damn good for stock head unit and no amp on the speakers. This seems to be the best bang for the buck setup with stock head unit.

    I am starting to suspect Krown rust treatment got into my doors and speakers a couple of weeks ago. Upon disassembling, I am feeling an oily film on the bottom side of the speaker and the adapter ring.

    the doors are open. one would need to silicone the windows shut, and the door handle cutout to prevent water ingress.

    @BlackburnPete

    Is it possible your speaker failed because it didn't have an Amp?

    I ask because maybe your stock head unit underpowered it.

    i think the rust treatment should be a prevailing theory, though i don't understand why that would get sprayed up into the doors.

    though if it were an electrical/overexcursion issue, that's going to indicate that it would be incorrect crossover settings that caused a repeated overexcursion of the cone.

    No amp, just the stock head unit. How does being under-powered cause this kind of damage? I plan on replacing that speaker with the same model and blame the Krown over-spray for dissolving the glue. I might even try to re-glue the rubber back onto the composite cone.

    Does anyone know if on this set up with the kicker 200 installed, can the speakers handle the Kicker 47KEY500.1 replacing the 200?

    The key500 is a single channel where the 200 is a 4 channel

    You can do a different head unit and a 5 channel amp set up. That'll involve more wiring

    Ok thanks. Wiring doesnt bother me. I will look for head unit and amps with 5 channel then. Any recommendations or is there a thread for it? Just trying to get a little more out of the speakers if possible.

    I swapped out my stock speakers with some scratch and dent Herts UNO’s from crutchfield. It was around $210 to my house shipped with the door and wire adapters. I thought it was a great deal.

    I chose these speakers because of their sensitivity and they can handle tons of power if I ever change the HU or add an amp in the future.

    These speakers do sound amazing to me for the price and it is a huge difference over stock. The bass is great out of the 6x9s. I will say that if you don’t have plans to add an amp or HU don’t bother with the back doors. Sure my new 6.5 unos are louder but they still don’t sound great. I thought I could buy better speakers, fade it to the rear and turn the sound up louder, this was wrong! It sounded terrible.
    The best way I can describe it is sound is missing. Not just in the back, but in the front too. You can’t fade to the back without sacrificing sound up front. It’s really a stupid design IMO.

    Anyhow I do love the speakers, I don’t think I’ll add anything else to the system now.

    I swapped my key200 out for an alpine RA60F. more power, more wiring, takes up more space. very happy with it.
