Thanks guys, parts are all ordered and should be in soon. Now just to find a good deal on some tweeters and maybe a sub/amp combo that fits behind the rear seats.

Has anyone tried to add sound deadening to door panels after truck has been treated with crown spray.
All my doors and jams been drilling and sprayed. This would be next to impossible to strip down for adhesive on deadening to stick.

    Any advice?

Is it sprayed behind your speakers as well?

What tweeters did you put in?
    Do you have a link?
    Did you need an adaptor?

Thanks, but someone on this thread said they don't fit a 2nd Gen.

I too have a 2nd gen. I'll go with one of the Kicker tweeter options from Crutchfield. Then ********* offers tweeter mounting plates and wire connectors for the tweeter since you need to wire the tweeter into the mid-driver in the lower door.

    One of these:

    Kicker 43CST20 3/4 Tweeter - $36.99

    Kicker 44KST2004 3/4 Tweeter - $59.99

    Kicker 44KST2504 - 1" Tweeter - $74.99

    And this:

********* tweeter mount and wiring harness - $41.83

Overland Tailor Tune (OTT) 7.0. Extra juicy oil spill on the bed mat.
Earlier I could only speak for the tweeters, but I installed the front and rear door speakers today:
    • Sound deadening mat was installed to cover as much as possible of the inner and outer metal front doors but nothing on the rear doors.
    • I purchased the Kicker kit that the OP recommended, but got both front and rear speakers cheaper as Crutchfield offered them with limited scratch-n-dent pricing. Both sets arrived in nearly flawless condition.
    • Crutchfield speaker mount adapters for the rear were OK, but the front adapters were totally wrong and I had to drill pilot holes. They also omitted the screws needed to mount the rear speakers. I had to make a trip to Ace to fetch a handful of the needed panhead screws.
    • I was a little surprised that sticky-back foam gaskets were not included in the Crutchfield kit to act as a buffer between the mount and door metal. I can imagine the unsealed speaker mount will eventually vibrate on the door sheet metal.
So here is my opinion on the audio now that both the tweeters and door speakers are installed. Take my adjectives for what they're worth since none of this is scientific:
    • The difference is not earth-shattering, but the overall sound is noticeably clearer.
    • The bass is crisper and slightly punchier without the muddy boom.
    • As stated before and among many of us here, the tweeters are the big winner and make the most difference.
If I had to do it all over again, I would have:
    • Included the speaker-to-door panel foam buffer to replicate the stock speaker installation method.
    • Included the speaker mount-to-metal foam gasket to replicate the stock speaker installation method.
    • Installed sound-deadening mat to the rear doors to match the front.
    • Installed several layers of sound deadening-mat behind the speakers.
    • Purchased 7x10 speakers for the front doors since there seems to be room for them.

Would be interested to hear if anyone tries and can fit 7x10s. For me the 6x9s seemed to fill the “grill” in the door pretty full up front.

For a buffer, I actually put the sound deadening between the outer door panel and the speaker mounts to prevent any ratting.

Also - when you tested the sound I assume you have done this over Bluetooth? Stock HU has plenty of power but sound reproduction is far superior over Bluetooth vs XM or HD Radio. In any case sounds like you saved even more money and came out ahead! Congrats

Did it over the weekend. Took me about 5 hours taking my time.

Although I did end up running over on the sound deadening, I needed an extra 4 sheets for the two rear doors.

IMO tweeters made the largest difference. Gotta add some extra low end next :headbang:

Hey @bshammer0, totally off topic, but what kayak is that on top of your truck in your profile? Looks like a Pyranha Burn.

That was my buddies Dagger Mamba, but what you can't see is on the back rack I have my creekboat which is a Wavesport Recon 93 as my primary steep creek boat for the winter - and creek season is HERE in the south! And since wavesport no longer sells in the US, I'll probably be back to Piranha's when I beat this one up for another season or 2.

Nice! I'm sad to say that I haven't been in my boat much this year. It was a pretty wet Summer here in PA which kept the creeks at a decent level. I should attend the pool sessions that the local kayak club has over the Winter and get a roll down. Then I'd be more inclined to try more creeks.

New to the forum here and have ordered all the speakers and parts to do the tweeters and door speakers swap soon. Has anyone installed the sound deadener directly over the existing plastic and felt insulation on the door? Thanks in advance guys for your help.
