Did you replace the dash tweeters with the Subaru Kicker tweeters? The reason I ask is because the door (front door at least) speakers are wired in series with the tweeters. If the tweeters are unplugged, the door speakers go silent. Is it possible that the new tweeters didn’t get plugged in all the way? Just something else to help troubleshoot.

Most have gone w/ the Kicker set on the OP but I've seen several different brands tested with various results - mostly positive. I don't think you can go wrong w/ the Kickers unless you are loyal to a particular brand like Rockford, Infinity, etc., and plan on doing a more extensive setup w/ an amp/sub. The 6x9 kickers have a lot of bass for MOST tastes, and the 3-ways while it may seem would be too much treble generally does a great job of delivering crisp highs, the rears aren't "loud" but serve as a great "surround" filler. Anything will be an upgrade from the OEM paper speakers, so you can't really go "wrong" :)

    Good luck!

Thank you for this thread and original post! Bought my 2017 TRD Sport Inferno a few weeks ago and it came with pretty much everything I wanted, except the upgraded JBL Sound System.

Found this thread, ordered my Kicker Tweeters on Monday from Amazon...they arrived today and I installed them tonight. I'm going to just stick with the Tweeter's now and not mess w/ the door speakers.

It's some work, but do the doors and back wall with dynamat or similar, it'll feel like a different truck.

    Too much.
You can do it. Take your time. If you don't use sound proofing, takes about 15 minutes per door. As long as you order from Crutchfield, you'll get all the adapters and plugs you need.

Do the sound deadening too. I bought a small quantity and the roller. Took maybe an extra ten minutes. Do around the speaker opening and just behind the speaker.

Honestly these are the most simplest doors i have ever removed.

alright, that all sounds good. i appreciate the encouragement and details. the video tutorial seems really helpful, so i should be good to go once i order the speakers. will def order from Crutchfield to get the adapters. as far as the "plugs", is there any new wiring that needs to be done, or are the door speakers "plug and play" too, as easy as the tweeters were?

I can look back at the video, but i didnt really pay much attention to the door part of the video cuz i didnt plan on doing it.

Nope no additional wiring. Where at in Maryland are you. Might be close enough for me to lend a hand if you need it.

thanks man, appreciate it. Columbia, MD here. little hike between here and Mechanicsburg.

Nice Taco btw. I previously had a Navy Blue Taco before, and was bummed they switched the shade of blue to a more bright blue, but urs looks awesome w/ the black grille and black rims...it also doesnt look as bright streak blue. very solid!

As long as you order from Crutchfield, select your model truck on the site, and mark the front speakers and rear speakers correctly in your order, Crutchfield will supply what you need to make them plug & play.

I replaced the door tweeters with a different brand. I'm in a 14 so the kicker tweeters wouldn't fit. I only changed the tweeters and upgraded doors to the kicker 6x9's from the OP.

Crutchfield said the kicker 6x9 wouldn't fit in my 15.

Yes. Definitely a hike. You will be ok. Take your time and follow the video. It’s a 2 on a scale of ten. Your truck looks awesome too. I was back and for between the blue and the inferno.

I didn't need to... just mounted the speakers to adapters, used the adapter connector from Crutchfield and mounted the whole set up to the door and it worked beautifully. A little tinny at first with a decreased bass response, but now after a couple off weeks I'm really debating if I really need an amp or sub. It sounds that good with deep clean bass.

With just switching out the tweeters, the sound is improved in the high end, with clearer vocals/high notes. A good amount of the muddiness goes away.

agreed. definitely a sharper, clear sound. i do kinda feel like they overtake the door speakers a bit too much, or there isn't the best crossover mix between the two, but that may just be a mental thing since i know only the tweets have been swapped. i turned the treble down a notch or two now, and it balanced out a bit.

overall the sound is more crisp and it works for me. i won't be disappointed just sticking with the tweeter replacement for now.
